Gyros. Fattoush. Hummus nachos. Middle Eastern kitchen opens in Kansas City’s Crossroads

Sido’s, a new Middle Eastern food concept, is now open in Parlor in the Crossroads.

Owner Abbaas Abu Zareefeh, a native of Jordan, has been waiting for a spot to open up in the food hall for a couple of years. Three of his four sons will operate the kitchen.

“Sido means grandpa, and we are continuing the legacy of my dad, the kids’ grandpa, who had a Jordan restaurant from 1959 to 2010,” he said.

He was an executive chef in Dubai and operated restaurants in Jordan before moving to Kansas City in 2012 and opening a remodeling and tile business.

Sido’s menu includes hummus with pita, baba ghanoush with pita, falafel, fried kubbeh (cracked wheat and dough balls stuffed with a mix of ground lamb and beef), gyro salad and sandwiches, fattoush, and shawarma salad and sandwiches.

The Sido sandwich is a pita bread stuffed with ground lamb and beef, greens, peppers, onions and tomato. The menu also has kebabs, stuffed grape leaves, hummus nachos and shish tawook — skewered barbecued marinated chicken.

It is on the second floor of the food hall at 1707 Locust St., in the former Taco Tank space.
