LUBBOCK – Similar to a game on the football field in the fall, or on the hardwood in the winter, the Clarendon Broncos' 11-4 loss to the Albany Lions in Game 1 of the Region I-2A semifinal matchup Thursday night was a story of two halves.

Through the first four innings at Hays Field on the campus of Lubbock Christian University, there was a total of one run and four hits allowed by starting pitchers Brock Hatley of Clarendon and Cole Chapman of Albany.

The Lions scored their lone run in that span to take a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by second baseman Coy Lefevre that scored left fielder Luke Ivy in the second inning.

Chapman had a no-hitter through the first three innings before it was broken up by an Easton Frausto single in the bottom of the fourth.

The fifth inning brought on a different ballgame.

Clarendon jumped out on Albany with four runs in the top of the fifth. The Broncos' scoring plays included an RBI single by third baseman Wilson Ward and a pair of RBI doubles by infielder Jared Musick and Frausto toward a 4-1 advantage.

Albany responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead and put the pressure back on the Broncos with the 5-4 lead. Infielder Cole Read notched an RBI double to left field, and Ivy recorded an RBI double to the outfield of his own to bring those runs home.

The Lions followed up their four-run fifth inning with six runs in the sixth while Chapman starred on the mound in the final two innings with a total of four strikeouts and no hits.
