H.S. Baseball/Softball: Wyoming Valley West baseball defeats Tunkhannock

May 8—Trevor Klem surrendered two hits and struck out six over six innings and Mason Sgarlat was 3-for-4 with two RBI as Wyoming Valley West defeated Tunkhannock 5-1 Monday in Wyoming Valley Conference baseball.

Max Lupohovsky doubled and pitched the final inning for the Spartans. D'Vonte Rivers tripled.

Aiden Paduck homered in the bottom of the seventh for Tunkhannock. He also struck out 11 in throwing a complete game.

Hazleton Area 7, Berwick 1

Hazleton Area broke a 1-1 tie with six runs in the sixth inning to defeat Berwick.

Dom Marino doubled and had two RBI for Hazleton Area. Brett Antolick also had two RBI. Chris Florentino finished 3-for-3.

Colton Rinehimer hit a solo homer in the third to account for Berwick's run. Matt Lonczynski had a double.

Lake-Lehman 6, Loyalsock 5

Lake-Lehman scored four runs in the top of the seventh to rally for a non-conference win.

Sam Finarelli had two RBI while Cole Kaiser and Corey Bean had one each.

Jason Jones threw the final five innings, allowing two hits, to pick up the win.

MMI Prep 5, Wyoming Seminary 4

MMI Prep scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to rally past Wyoming Seminary.

Mike Kranyak, Ty McDermott and Josh Witner each had an RBI in the seventh for the Preppers.

Hayden Vought was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Seminary.

Pittston Area 16, Wilkes-Barre Area 1

Anthony Cencetti had three RBI while Drew Menendez and Jake Aftewicz added two each as the Patriots won in three innings.

Jeremy Cawley tripled and Menendez and Elijah Barr each had a double for Pittston Area, which scored 12 times in the first inning.

Jason Prudente had WBA's only RBI.

Crestwood 4, Dallas 3

Nathan Stortz had two RBI while Chaz Wright and Joe Moratori had one each as Crestwood edged Dallas.

Moratori pitched five innings to get the win. Ben Keil tossed the final frame for the save.

Dylan Geskey had a double and single for Dallas.

SOFTBALL

Berwick 6, Crestwood 0

Makayla Brown struck out 11 and allowed two hits over six innings for Berwick.

Brown also doubled, singled and had two RBI. Gianna Berlin was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Kayla Wisniewski had a pair of singles for Crestwood.

Ethan Nagy had two doubles and two singles for four of Loyalsock's five hits.

Wyoming Seminary 8, Hanover Area 6

Cassidy Skoronski homered, doubled and had three RBI as Wyoming Seminary picked up its first win of the season.

Lauren Finlay was 3-f0r-3 and Emily Brown was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Blue Knights.

Maggie Murphy had two homers and Brenna Slusser had a home run for Hanover Area.

Lake-Lehman 9, Wyoming Area 0

Hailey Kline and Rylie Bucknavage homered as the Black Knights wrapped up the Division 2 title with a win against Wyoming Area.

Ava Hudak finished with three RBI for Lehman. Hannah Chipego struck out nine. Lucy Honeywell was 3-for-4 with a double.

Holy Redeemer 11, Nanticoke Area 0

Payton Parker had three RBI and Abby Williams doubled and had two RBI as the Royals won in five innings.

Kendra Santuk added two doubles and Kaylee Gryboski had two RBI for Redeemer.

Shaylee Heffron had two of Nanticoke Area's four hits.
