H.S. basketball roundup: Abilene High boys roll past Brownwood

BROWNWOOD – Reese Brooks poured in a game-high 20 points, and four other Abilene High players scored in double figures as the Eagles blasted Brownwood 88-50 in a non-district boys basketball game Friday.

Jake Breckenridge followed Brooks with 15 points, and Connel Colley added 14. Eric Salazar had 12, and Chris Motl had 11 for AHS (7-8).

Tristan Salas led the Lions (8-6) with 15 points, and Morsello Hooker had 10.

AHS opens District 4-5A play at Lubbock Monterey on Tuesday, while Brownwood is home against Snyder.

Plainview turns away Wylie

At Plainview, Plainview outscored Wylie 22-8 in the third quarter to break open a five-point game en route to a 58-47 victory in the non-district game.

Mady Williams led Plainview (9-7) with a game-high 20 points, and Brooke Nails added 11.

Caroline Steadman led Wylie (10-8) with 19 points, and Kaylan Adams had 10.

The Lady Bulldogs return to District 4-5A play against Abilene Cooper on Tuesday at Bulldog Gym. Wylie beat Abilene High 62-24 in its district opener Tuesday at Eagle Gym.

No. 9 Stephenville keeps rolling

At Waco, Kyla Ray scored a game-high 10 points, while five others scored five or more points to lead No. 9 Class 4A Stephenville past Waco Robinson 50-10 in a non-district game.

Lillie Skiles added eight points, while Brinley Hall, Lucy Espinosa and Audrey Brandon had six each. Vanessa Gonzalez had five for the Honeybees (17-2).

Kaygen Marshall led the Lady Rockets (10-13) with six points. Lily King followed with two.

Stephenville plays No. 23 4A Marble Falls at 1:30 p.m. Monday in a non-district game in Marble Falls.

No. 11 Gorman remains unbeaten

At Stephenville, Kyndall Scitern scored a game-high 20 points as No. 11 Gorman beat Stephenville Three Way 82-8 in a District 19-1A game.

Esmerelda Ervin followed with 17 points, while Kayla Falcon and Jordan Hampton scored 14 each for the Lady Panthers (18-0).

Clyde fends off Coahoma

At Clyde, Sierah Booker, Morgan Mauldin and Dacey Tucker combined for 31 points as Clyde beat Coahoma 51-40 in a District 6-3A game.

Booker led Clyde (8-9, 1-1) with 11 points. Mauldin and Tucker had 10 each, while Audrey Frost had eight.

Shae Lang led Coahoma (7-9, 1-1) with 12 points, and Madisyn Renteria had 11.

Clyde plays at Merkel on Tuesday, while Coahoma plays Ballinger at 6:30 p.m. in Coahoma.
