More than 700 part- and full-time jobs are coming to North Texas.

Texas-based grocery store H-E-B will host a hiring fair on Saturday, Aug. 13, in Plano. The chain plans to hire for a variety of positions this summer to fill its new store location in the city north of Dallas.

“We are looking for 700 partners at each of our new stores who enjoy a fast-paced environment and have a personal mission to serve others,” said Mabrie Jackson, the company’s senior director of public affairs. “H-E-B can train most people for any role. We are looking for candidates with a heart for people.”

Open positions in the store include roles in bakery, in-store selling, eStore, catering, checkers, deli, seafood, produce, customer service, True Texas BBQ restaurant and more. Wages start at $15 per hour with a 10% discount on H-E-B products.

“We have a variety of full-time and part-time positions available for everyone,” Jackson said. “The high school student looking for their first job, the stay-at-home parent looking for a part-time position to keep a toe in the workforce, adults looking for a change in careers and seasoned retailers wanting a sense of purpose in their daily work.”

Jobs at the Plano store come with a partner stock plan and 401(k) plan with a 4% company match. Candidates must complete an application prior to attending the hiring fair, which will be held at Collin College’s Plano Campus at 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway.

The new Plano H-E-B will be at the southwest corner of Preston Road and Spring Creek Parkway. The 111,000-square-foot store will feature a Texas Backyard department, a full-service pharmacy with drive-thru, a True Texas BBQ restaurant with drive-thru, and curbside and home delivery options.

This is the latest development in H-E-B’s expansion across North Texas. Last year, the privately owned company announced goals to expand into the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. H-E-B is set to open a new Frisco store in fall 2022 and has two stores under construction in Allen and McKinney that will open next summer.

The company also owns land in Alliance, in northern Fort Worth, where a developer in June revealed plans for an H-E-B before quickly backtracking to say only that a “major grocery” is coming to the H-E-B-owned site.

H-E-B Grocery Company LP has more than 420 stores and 145,000 employees across Texas and Mexico. H-E-B sees $34 billion in annual sales and is the largest food retailer and private employer in Texas.

H-E-B began in 1905 with a small grocery store in Kerrville, about 100 miles west of Austin. Through the 1950s and 1960s, H-E-B became the leading food retailer in central and south Texas with more than 80 stores.

Through the chain’s expansion across Texas, H-E-B established trust and brand resonance with new customers by tailoring product offerings specific to the geographic area, industry experts say. This means no two H-E-B locations are exactly the same, setting the chain apart from nationwide competitors like Walmart and Kroger.
