H.S. football: CB East players finally have chance to shine at home under new lights

In the first-ever night game at Central Bucks East High School’s Patriot Stadium, the Patriots gave the home crowd a lot to cheer about.

CB East defeated Souderton, 30-13, on Friday night to christen the new lights with a victory.

Ethan Shine scored all four of CB East’s touchdowns, including a 21-yard score and a 76-yard rush to set up his own two-yard touchdown. He led all rushers with 258 total yards.

“It’s the first game under the lights and we got the result we wanted,” said Shine, a senior. “This means the world to everyone. We did it for ourselves and all the teams that went before us who didn’t have the chance to play a night game here.

“We prepared all week for this game. We knew this week was going to be different, being at night at home, and we wanted to be ready. We were.”

Jack Corrigan netted a field goal and three extra points for the Patriots, who remain undefeated at 3-0.

It was the first loss of the year for Souderton (2-1).

The Indians got a touchdown on a 39-yard reception by Shaun Purvy from Jared Zimmerman. Ty Quintois made two field goals for Big Red.

Three things we’ve learned:

  1. CB East’s offensive line is for real. The Patriots kept creating daylight and Shine capitalized on those opportunities time and time again.

  2. Kickers matter. CB East kicker Jack Corrigan accounted for six of his team’s points with a field goal and three extra points. For Souderton, Ty Quintois hit two field goals for six points and Rylan Zuk added an extra point to contribute seven of their team’s 13 points.

  3. Both CB East and Souderton are able to take care of the ball. Neither quarterback threw an interception. CB East fumbled twice and recovered them both, and Souderton only fumbled once, but also hung on to possession.

They said it

“I’m very proud of our team,” Souderton quarterback Jared Zimmerman said. “We’re fighting through a lot of injuries. We’re playing through (adversity) and it’s nice to see that we’re still pushing. We’ll learn from this loss. We have to mentally and physically prepare and focus for each team. We’re going to move on from this.”
