H.S. football: Pennsbury knocks off unbeaten Central Bucks East behind Mulbah

BRISTOL TWP. — Galamama Mulbah suffered through the last two winless seasons of Pennsbury football.

After opening this season with a loss to mighty Coatesville, the Falcons have won five in a row. On Friday night, he had a big say in that fifth win, running for 203 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-22 victory over previously undefeated Central Bucks East.

Mulbah said the difference is rehiring former coach Galen Snyder, who stresses offseason work in the weight room and meaningful practices.

Pennsbury head coach Galen Snyder makes his way to the sidelines towards the end of a timeout in a football game at Central Bucks South in Warrington on Friday, September 23, 2022. The Falcons defeated the Titans 28-6.

“Snyder, he’s a phenomenal coach,” Mulbah said. “I love him. We definitely have a different attitude. We’re more disciplined. We’re not the losing Falcons.”

Mulbah ran for touchdowns of 1, 4 and 1 yards Friday. He credited the blocking of Nathan Beighley, Eric David and the offensive line with helping the 5-1 Falcons (3-0 Suburban One League National Conference) beat CB East (5-1, 2-1 SOL National). He also said quarterback Shane McGurrin runs the offense well.

“This was a statement game for us,” Mulbah said. “We want to make the playoffs.”

Mulbah ran for two touchdowns in the third quarter and added a TD in the fourth.

“He picked up steam in the second half,” Snyder said.

Mulbah is being recruited by Kutztown, Alvernia, Millersville and Towson.

“My dream is to play in college,” he said.

Mulbah is a big reason Pennsbury ended a 17-game losing streak in week two. The Falcons completed a sweep of the three Central Bucks schools — CB West, South and East — in the last three weeks.

The Falcons are playing home games at Harry S. Truman, where Snyder had success as a head coach and assistant coach. Snyder also had a successful first stint at Pennsbury.

Pennsbury hopes to return to Falcon Field, which is being renovated, later this season.

Pennridge, North Penn and Neshaminy are among those still on the schedule.

“It doesn’t get any easier,” Snyder said.

  1. Pennsbury is Pennsbury again. This is not the program that went winless in 2020 and 2021.

  2. Pennsbury is the same old Pennsbury offensively, running the ball most of the game. It might not be flashy, but other teams are having trouble stopping Galamama Mulbah, Nathan Beighley and Shane McGurrin.

  3. The Pennsbury defense will adjust to the opponent. Sure, the Falcons allowed 22 points, but they held star senior running back Ethan Shine, who had averaged more than 200 yards in the first five games, to 68 yards. Coach Galen Snyder said the Falcons tried to “stop the run at all costs.”

  • Pennsbury senior running back Galamama Mulbah rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns. Mulbah’s scoring runs were from 1, 4 and 1 yards.

  • Central Bucks East senior running back Ethan Shine caught a 28-yard touchdown pass. On the first drive of the second half, he ran for a 3-yard TD to give the Patriots the lead.

  • Pennsbury junior running back/defensive back Nathan Beighley was part of a defense that did a nice job stopping an East offense that features Shine and some quality passing options. Beighley also ran for an 8-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter.

They said it:

As Pennsbury broke its postgame huddle, coach Galen Snyder said, “How about the first-place Falcons.”
