H.S. gymnastics: Abilene Cooper's Reyna wins district boys' all-around title

ODESSA – Cooper’s Tristan Reyna won three of six events to win the overall title at the district gymnastics meet Thursday.

Reyna won the vault, parallel bars and high bar. He also was second on the rings and floor and fourth on the pommel horse to beat out Abilene High’s Joel Dantzler for the all-around title.

Dantzler won the pommel horse, finished second in the high bar, tied Cooper’s Evan Banks for third in the parallel bars and vault and tied teammate Aaron Grow for sixth in the floor.

Banks, who finished fifth in the all-around, was fourth on the rings and sixth in the pommel horse.

AHS’ Korban Jackson was fifth on the pommel horse.

The AHS boys finished third as a team, and Cooper was fourth.

The AHS girls nabbed second as a team, while Cooper was fifth.

The Lady Eagles’ Azurae Martin finished third in the all-around, while teammate Andrea Volk was third and Cooper’s Clementine Katele was fourth.

Katele finished sixth in the vault, and Katele was sixth in the bars.

“Coach Richardson and I are proud of all of our athletes on their performances at the district championship and are excited to work hard to improve our scores for the regional championships,” Abilene ISD coach Brandon Cooke said.

The region championships will be March 29-30 at Rock Solid Athletics in Lubbock.
