H.S. Roundup: Area teams pick big wins in baseball, softball

BASEBALL

Lancaster 12, Groveport 0: For the second consecutive game, the Golden Gales scored 10 or more runs as they cruised past the Cruisers in an Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division win to improve to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Isaac Cooperrider pitched a complete game shutout striking out seven and only giving up three hits. Hayden Allen hit an inside-the-park home run and scored three times. Carter Ross also scored three times and Jakub Akers and Jacob Mowder each scored twice. Owen Pompey had two RBIs and a stolen base.

Fairfield Union 9, Logan Elm 7: The Falcons continued to stay hot as they held off the Braves in a Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win.

Joey Bell picked up the win in relief of Kyle Wolfe and Jacob Forson got the save. Offensively, the Falcons were led by Malachi Palmer who had four hits on the day including two triples, and Kyle Wolfe added three hits.

Fairfield Christian Academy 17, Grove City Christian 3: The Knights went on the road and cruised in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win to improve to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the league.

Caleb White picked up the win as he pitched all five innings, allowing zero earned runs, two hits and striking out seven. The Knights pounded out 10 hits, led by Aiden Langwasser, Brayden Stem, and Matthew Keener with two hits each.  AJ Holbrook, Gabe Linn, Andrew Keener and Harrison Teal added a hit each, while Teal and Stem each drove in three runs.

Millersport 21, Harvest Prep 0: The Lakers scored 11 runs and never looked back in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Warriors.

Michael Levacy went 3-for-3, including a home run, two RBI and scored four times. Brendan Jakeway, Trey Johnston, Andrew Kronebitter and Tyler Large added two hits each.

Berne Union 14, Fisher Catholic 0: Nate Nemeth was lights out on the mound as he held the Irish to only two hits and struck out nine in the Rockets’ Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win.

Offensively, Berne Union (6-3, 3-1) pounded out 15 hits. William Bolton went 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead the way. Hudson Gerken was 3-for-3 with two RBI, Nemeth had two hits, two RBI and scored three runs, and Luke Shafer and Zach Hartmann had two hits each. Clayton Moore had a hit and two RBI and Glenny Harris had a hit and scored a run.

Fairfield Christian Academy 4, Zanesville Rosecrans 1: The Knights improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division after their win over the Bishops.

Jimmy Schmitz picked up the win going all seven innings, allowing two hits and one run.  Aiden Langwasser led the offense with two doubles and scored once.  AJ Holbrook and Brayden Stem had one hit and one run a piece, and Matthew Keener, Gabe Linn, and Jimmy Schmitz each had one hit and drove in a run.  JP Vance also had an RBI.

Berne Union 9, Centerburg 3: The Rockets scored five runs in the sixth inning to pull away from the visiting Trojans in non-conference action.

Cooper Mitchell started and pitched four-plus innings, giving up three hits and striking out six. Zach Hartmann two-thirds of an inning and picked up the win in relief, and William Bolton pitched the final two innings and finished with two strikeouts to pick up the save.

Clayton Moore went 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead the offense. Mitchell had two hits and an RBI, Bolton had a hit and two RBI, and Nate Nemeth, Hartmann and Luke Shafer all finished with one hit for the Rockets (5-3).

SOFTBALL

Bloom-Carroll 13, Amanda-Clearcreek 5: The Bulldogs trailed early but came storming back in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the visiting Aces.

Madi Grefe led the way with three hits and five RBI for the Bulldogs. Ady Luke, Harley Romine and Madi Walters finished with three hits each. Walters picked up the win in the circle as she pitched the first four innings, giving up just two hits. Hollie Prince pitched the final three innings and gave up just two hits.

Millersport 21, Harvest Prep 0: The Lakers picked up a convincing Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Warriors.

Emily Blevins started in the circle, pitching two innings and striking out three, and Kendyl Bonkowski closed out the game by pitching the remaining three innings and striking out five.

The Lakers had 13 hits on the day, led by Emma Raver going 4-for-4 with six RBI, Haiden Byrd going 2-for-3 with three RBI and going 2-for-3 with three RBI and Veronica Rarey added two hits and 2 RBI.

Fisher Catholic 11, Millersport 1: The Irish broke open a 1-1 tie by scoring six runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.

Elle Mitchel and Lauren Kersell led the Irish offense with two hits each and Jayda Dixon had a double. Kersell picked up the win in the circle, giving up one run on six hits and striking out five.

Emily Blevins took the loss. Grace Beidel had a hit and knocked in the lone run for the Lakers, while Veronica Rarey, Alexis Barch, Emily Blevins and Kendyl Bonkowski each had a hit.

TRACK

Lancaster wins Stingel Invitational: The Golden Gales finished with 105.5 points to win the Stingel Invitational at Pickerington North.

Liberty Union places first: The Lady Lions won their home tri-meet as they finished with 86 points and were followed by Fairfield Christian Academy (47) and Fairfield Union B (38).

TENNIS

Lancaster 5, Central Crossing 0: The Golden Gales cruised in their Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division win over the Comets.

At No. 1 singles, Parker Cohen won 6-0, 6-0; at No. 2 singles, Grant Hampson won 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 3 singles, Will Richardson won 6-0. 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Evan Alspach and Lilly Robinson won 6-3, 6-1 and at No. 2 doubles, Kaylee Akers and Landon Watson won 6-0, 6-0.
