H.S. Roundup: Berne Union cruises in tourney win, improves to 25-0

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Berne Union 47. Fairfield Christian Academy 6: The Lady Rockets, ranked No. 3 in the state Associated Press poll, improved to 25-0 after their dominating win over the Knights in a Division IV tournament win.

Berne Union led 12-1 at the end of the first quarter and 33-2 at halftime. Sophia Kline led the way with 17 points, Baylee Mirgon added 15 and Abbi Evans chipped in five points.

The Lady Rockets advance to a district semifinal against the Madison Christian-Mount Gilead winner at 7 p.m. Tuesday at a site to be determined.

Fairfield Union 31, Warren 26: The No. 12 seed Lady Falcons continued their hot streak by upsetting No. 5 seed Warren (18-5) in a Division II Southeast District tournament win.

It was Fairfield Union’s eighth consecutive victory. Sophomore Christian Thompson led the way with 10 points, 17 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Nicole Terry added nine points and Elly Lewis chipped in seven.

The Falcons (14-9) will face No. 4 seed Marietta (20-3) at 8 p.m. Monday in a district semifinal at Logan High School.

Liberty Union 60, Tree of Life 41: The Lions used a balanced scoring attack in their Division III tournament win.

Abbie Riddle led the way with 17 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Kat Aubrey finished with 10 points, Delaney Peck added nine and Payton Hochradel chipped in eight points.

The Lions advance and will face top-seeded Africentric at 7 p.m. Monday at Teays Valley High School.

Amanda-Clearcreek 33, Johnstown 26: The Aces (14-10) jumped out to a huge first-half lead and then had to hold on in their Division III tournament win over the visiting Johnnies.

Amanda-Clearcreek led 18-3 at the end of the first quarter and 26-7 at halftime.

Emily Buckley and Taylor Evans led the Aces with nine points each and Hailey Sowers added six points.

The Aces advance and will play top-seeded Worthington Christian at 7 p.m. Monday at a site to be determined.

Dublin Coffman 59, Lancaster 28: The visiting Lady Gales fell short in their Division I tournament loss against the No. 4 seed Shamrocks.

The Gales trailed 16-7 at the end of the first quarter and 30-11 at halftime. No other information was available.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Fairfield Christian Academy 60, Trimble 52: The Knights used a balanced scoring attack in their non-conference win over the Tomcats.

John Grabans led the way with 21 points, Ben Hopple had 17, and Samuel Rauch and Andrew Keener chipped in 10 points each.
