H.S. Roundup: Berne Union opens with tournament win

Berne Union 12, Wellington 1, (five innings: The Rockets scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open in their Division IV tournament opener.

Senior Dylan Winkler was outstanding on the mound as he pitched all five innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out 12.

Offensively, Hudson Gerken led the Rockets by going 3-for-3, including two doubles and three RBI. Nate Nemeth went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Tylor Tipple had two hits, two RBI and scored a run, William Bolton finished with a pair of hits, including a double and an RBI and Winkler had a hit, two RBI and scored two runs.

Berne Union advances to a district semifinal Tuesday at Beavers Field and will face the Fairfield Christian Academy-Tree of Life winner. The Knights were leading 4-0 in that game before it was suspended because of the weather.

Granville Christian Academy 8, Fisher Catholic 2: Joe Benvie struck out 10 and allowed no earned runs in a two-hitter, pitching No. 11 Granville Christian to a victory at No. 9 Fisher Catholic, a defending district champion, in a Division IV second-round game.
