H.S. ROUNDUP: Brockton boys, B-R girls claim Southeast Conference cross country titles

The Brockton and Bridgewater-Raynham High cross country teams competed in the Southeast Conference Championship meet at Wrentham Developmental Center on Wednesday. The Boxers' boys and Trojans' girls brought home some new hardware.

In the boys race, Brockton (31 points) pulled ahead of second-place Dartmouth (40) in the waning moments to seal the win; Bridgewater-Raynham (49) and New Bedford (113) rounded out the leaderboard. Brockton was led by medalists junior Aaron Corlette (second place, 16:56), sophomore Antonio Tobon (seventh, 17:54.4), senior Chris Gorynski (eighth, 17:58.4), and senior Henry Tait (ninth, 18:14.8). Freshman Robbie Moyes (11th, 18:21.5) and senior Asher Miller (14th 18:40.5) also produced points for the Boxers.

The top finishers for the Bridgewater-Raynham boys team were senior James Murray (third place, 17:11.4), freshman Jack Alves (fifth, 17:42.8), sophomore Joseph Brand (10nth, 18:21.4) and senior Connor Donohue (12th, 18:25.4).

For the B-R girls team, its 26 points were enough to overcome Dartmouth (41) and New Bedford (71). The top finishers were freshman Camden Strandberg (first place, 19:23.4), junior Sydney O’Donnell (second, 20:10.4), sophomore Brenna Woodbury (seventh, 21:44.5), sophomore Audrey Lambert (ninth, 22:49.0), senior Nethica Auguste (10th, 23:04.9), senior Ieva Piragis (11th, 23:13.3), freshman Tessa Bringardner (13th, 23:26.9).

In other high school action on Wednesday:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Rockland 3, Whitman-Hanson 2: The Bulldogs prevailed (18-25, 25-23, 26-24, 19-25, 14-16). Whitman-Hanson finishes the regular season 10-10, as sophomore setter Caroline Gray, senior Abby Walsh and team captains Riley Codero, Caitlin Leahy and Gracey Gorman played well for the Panthers in the loss.

Oliver Ames 3, Foxboro 0: The Tigers completed the sweep (25-23, 25-23, 25-19). Junior Saia Rivera led the way with a strong defensive showing. Also standing out in the win were sophomore Clare Kavolius (30 assists), senior Maddie Homer (17 digs and 16 receptions), junior Claire O’Rourke (10 kills and two aces) and sophomore Addyson Smock with (five kills, four solo blocks).

Abington 3, South Shore Tech 1: Gemma Geisler had 10 kills, but the Vikings (16-3) dropped a non-league match to the Green Wave (13-7). Also for South Shore, Hannah Nota had 7 kills, and Abby Pattison, Lily Berquist and Anna Graham each added a pair of kills. Alli Traynor served 15 of 15, and Julia Da Silva served 16 of 17 with 3 aces.

West Bridgewater 3, Norfolk Aggie 1: The Wildcats won on Senior Night.

Scituate 3, East Bridgewater 0: The win reserved the Sailors (10-10) a spot in the state tournament.

Thayer 3, Winsor 2: The Tigers held off a comeback bid (25-14, 25-18, 18-25, 13-25, 15-8).

FIELD HOCKEY

Plymouth North 1, Scituate 1: Plymouth North's Molly Hogan scored her first goal, assisted by Maeve Campbell.

Hanover 2, Plymouth South 0: Senior captain Meredith DeCoste and senior Emma Hammett scored for the Hawks (13-2-2), assisted by junior Katie Radzik and senior captain Ava Toglia. The goalie tandem of senior MaryKate Vermette and junior Olivia Campo preserved the shutout.

Hingham 4, Marshfield 1: Freshman Ella O’Neill scored two goals for Hingham (16-1), while sophomore Haylen Wilson and senior Lily Ehler each chipped in one. Erin Boyd scored for Marshfield.

Silver Lake 5, Whitman-Hanson 0: Senior Abbie O'Neil, senior Kate Marino and junior Jaclyn Feeney stood out for Whitman-Hanson (0-15-2).

West Bridgewater 3, East Bridgewater 0: Despite the loss, East Bridgewater is headed to the tournament. The Vikings had only two wins at the start of the month.

Walpole 3, Braintree 0: The Wamps (12-4-2) lost their regular-season finale.

Thayer 1, Winsor 0: Junior Emma Hu tallied the game-deciding score.

Notre Dame Academy 3, Dennis-Yarmouth 2: Junior Shannon MacLeod recorded a hat trick in the first quarter.

GIRLS SOCCER

Middleboro 3, Rockland 0: Jessica Perry, Olivia Mather and Mary Cox scored for the Sachems (8-6-3), while Elleana Bush (2) and Lily Elder recorded assists.

Cohasset 6, Mashpee 1: Peyton Lord, Georgia Barrett, Ava Carcio, Angie Grimes, Cat Herman and Tess Barrett scored for the Skippers.

Avon 6, Wareham 0: Kate Austrino (three goals), Hanelie Cadet (four assists), Brynn Gaynor (two goals, one assist), Emma Macdonald (one goal) and Noelani Milord (one assist) stuffed the stat sheet for Avon, which improves to 10-5. Defensively, Micaella Gomes secured her fifth shutout of the season and Dahlia Parent played well.

Southeastern 3, Bishop Connolly 0: Senior captain Rhiannon Maloney, sophomore Agapi Kouvlis and freshman Lucy Calabrese each chipped in tallies for the Hawks. Senior Captain Erika Blanchard and sophomore Whitney Maciel led the defensive charge, helping sophomore goalkeeper Paige Crockett collect her eighth clean sheet of the season.

Blue Hills 4, Old Colony 1: Sophomore Kathleen Murphy (two goals) led the way, backed by strong performances from Emily Lehane (goal, assist), Alexis D'Arcy (goal, assist), Emily Hietala (assist) and defensive standouts Sam Tucker and Jen Subiron.

Cardinal Spellman 1, Bishop Fenwick 1: Grace Foster scored Spellman's lone goal, and Taylor Dolan rejected a penalty shot with 10 minutes left in the second half to preserve the draw. Kaci Belmont, Isabella McDonough, Mary Heffernan, Peyton D'Ambra, Sarah Donnelly, Erin O'Donnell and Rylie Dundon all played strong defensive games. The Cardinals are now 8-5-4.

Norwell 5, Abington 0: Chloe Kirchner's hat trick was backed by goals from Mallory Hahn and Eden Wheeler for the Clippers (8-2-7).

Thayer 3, Andover 1: Sophomore Julia Gelina scored two goals for the Tigers, and sophomore Riley Roycroft scored the other.

BOYS SOCCER

Cardinal Spellman 6, Bishop Fenwick 1: Senior Daniel Loura (three goals) and Nate Monteiro (two goals, two assists) led the Cardinals to a Senior Day win, as Ben Clark (goal), Hayden Richard (assist), Henok Jones (assist) and keeper Joey Kearney also chipped in.

Norwell 2, Abington 0: Garrett Fisher and Zach Bello scored for the Clippers.

Cohasset 7, Mashpee 1: The Skippers scored all seven goals in the second half to improve to 7-7-2 overall and 7-2-1 against South Shore League opponents.

Randolph 3, East Bridgewater 1: Angelot Brun, Jonas Norsica and Baldimy Joseph scored for the Blue Devils (10-5-2). Hugo Teixeira was a major factor in net for Randolph. Freshman Orson Lizie scored the lone goal for the Vikings, assisted by sophomore Lucas Silvia.

Belmont Hill 7, Thayer 0: The Tigers were blanked.
