H.S. Roundup: Clutch FT shooting helps lead B-C girls to win over Teays Valley

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bloom-Carroll 43, Teays Valley 38: The Bulldogs rallied in the second half and held in the fourth quarter thanks to some clutch free throw shooting in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the visiting Vikings.

Bloom-Carroll (11-3, 7-2) trailed 4-2 at the end of the first quarter and 17-10 at halftime before outscoring the Vikings 17-6 in the third quarter 27-23 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs connected on 9 of 11 free throws in the fourth. Senior Reese Pittman led the way with 14 points, including two 3-pointers and she went 4-for-5 from the free throw in the fourth quarter. Emily Bratton added 13 points and went 4-for-4 at the line in the fourth, while Emma Seagraves finished with eight points and Logan Hardacre chipped in five points.

Amanda-Clearcreek 60, Hamilton Township 21: The Aces cruised past the Rangers in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win. No other information was available.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lakewood 48, Millersport 36: The Lakers trailed 19-14 at halftime but the Lancers were able to steadily pull away in the second half of a non-conference game.

Trey Johnston led the Lakers with 19 points and Michael Levacy had eight points.

SWIMMING

Fairfield Christian sweeps meet: The Lady Knights had a solid night in a double dual meet at the Ohio University Natatorium by sweeping The Plains, Athens (86-60) and Zane Trace (106-26).

Senior Grace Barnhart, swimming in off events, took first in the 200 IM and second in the 100 breaststroke. Senior Maddie Burris took first in the 200 free and first in the 100 breaststroke, beating fellow teammate Grace Barnhart in a photofinisher by 3/100th of a second.

Senior Emma Smeltzer finished third in the 200 free and first in the 100 backstroke, senior Sophia Kumler was third in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free and sophomore Claire McGowan was fourth in the 200 free and third in the 100 backstroke. Sophomore Jessikah McGee brought home a third-place finish in the 200 IM and third in the 100 freestyle.

Freshman Addyson Barnhart was first in the 100 fly and second in the 100 backstroke. The 200 medley relay of both Barnhart’s, Smeltzer, and Burris took home first. The 200 free of Addyson Barnhart, Claire McGowan, Jessikah McGee and Sophia Kumler took home first, as well. Rounding out the relay scoring was a first-place finish in the 400 free with G. Barnhart, Smeltzer, Burris, and Kumler.

Scoring for the boys’ team was freshman Josiah Hildenbrand, who was second in the 200 free and 100 backstrokes.
