H.S. ROUNDUP: Faria becomes record-holding goal-scorer for Rockland High boys soccer team
Coming just one tally short of the program's single-season goal total last fall, Rockland's Joao Faria entered this season determined to win a state title and set the school record once and for all.
And though objective No. 1 is still a work-in-progress, he achieved the latter in the team's 5-0 win over Holbrook on Thursday.
His one score on Thursday was his 31st of the season, exceeding a total of 30 that was set in 2015 by Joe Kimball -- brother of Rockland boys soccer coach and athletic director, Dan Kimball.
Jacob Asplund, Gabe DaSilva, Ryan Sullivan and Jake Lucas also found the back of the net for Rockland, which improved to 12-3-2 with the win. Goalkeeper Kellen Porter recorded the clean sheet, his seventh of the season, and Ty Comman also shined.

BOYS SOCCER
Plymouth North 5, Whitman-Hanson 2: Plymouth North's Ben Young scored two goals, while Malachai Val, Kevin Riley and Jack Corby tallied the other three. Riley also paired two assists, Young and Lucas Malaghaes each added one. Bradlee Sorensen and Liam Hewins also played well for the Eagles. For the Panthers (2-14), Ethan Fostello and Andrew Chicolowski tallied goals and defensive duo Devin Walsh and Dillon Galanis shined.
Oliver Ames 5, Foxboro 0: Casey Milliken (two goals, two assists) and Joey Carney (two goals) led the way for the Tigers. Jackson Mercieri scored his first goal of the season, while Luke Churchill and Ryan Linhares (two) facilitated assists. Drew Hall, Zach Gilson, Hector Bucio, Jake Williams, Jackson Mercer and Diego Riveira combined on defense to record the team’s 13th shutout of the season. The win is the team’s 14th straight.
Silver Lake 2, Hingham 1: Silver Lake’s Andrew Palma drilled the game-deciding goal off a throw-in assist from Owen MacKinnon and Sam Farias recorded his first-ever varsity point on an assist to goal-scorer Connor Donohue for the Lakers.
North Quincy 4, Scituate 2: The Raiders took this Patriot League match.
East Bridgewater 2, West Bridgewater 1: Freshman Orson Lizie and sophomore Lucas Silvia scored for the Vikings (12-4-4), who also received strong play from Connor Kohl.
Marshfield 3, Duxbury 1: Cody Holbert scored two goals and Ryan Treacy added one on a 25-yard free kick to clinch the Rams (12-2-1) their eighth consecutive win.
Archbishop Williams 3, South Shore Christian Academy 1: The Bishops (10-4-2) won on Senior Night, behind strong outings from freshman DJ Tandy (two goals) and eighth grader Chase Dennison (one goal, one assist).
GIRLS SOCCER
Blue Hills 4, Mt. Alvernia 0: Sophomore Kathleen Murphy scored a hat trick, each assisted by Emily Lehane. Brielle Doolin also scored. Kiera Bare, Jen Subiron and keeper Mikeyla Roman contributed to the shutout effort. Blue Hills capped the regular season unbeaten for the first time in school history.
Duxbury 4, Marshfield 0: Megan Carney (two goals), Beth Yucius and Morgan Cheverie all scored for the Dragons. Beth Yucius finished with two assists and goalkeeeper Izzy Maser pitched a shutout.
Hingham 4, Silver Lake 0: En route to a four-goal day, Sophie Reale capitalized on feeds from Megan O’Neil, Ava Varholak, Emily Gibbons and Maddie Aughe.
Dartmouth 3, Middleboro 1: Izzy Mosley finished with 21 saves for the Sachems, who received their only goal from Kayleigh Graham.
Hanover 3, Quincy 0: The Hawks took this Patriot League battle behind three goals from Sophia Foley.
Braintree 1, Walpole 0: Ciara Horan scored the deciding goal for the Wamps.
Scituate 1, Quincy 1: The Sailors and Presidents finished deadlocked at one goal apiece.
Plymouth North 2, Whitman-Hanson 1: Assisted by Bella Rochelle and Emily O'Connell, Mackenzie Hohulin and Emmie Rush were the goal-scorers for the Eagles (7-7-4), who clinched a spot in the state tournament with the win. Makenna Marshall capitalized on a free kick to get the Panthers on the board, while the trio of Haley Gillis, Abby Bartlett and Brooke McAloney also played well for Whitman-Hanson.
FIELD HOCKEY
Norwell 3, Sharon 0: Both Sara Grace Edelman (two goals) and Paige Maguire scored in the Clippers’ win.
West Bridgewater 1, Pembroke 0: The Wildcats won this non-league game.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Oliver Ames 3, Notre Dame Academy 0: The Tigers won (25-23, 25-25, 25-12) to finish the regular season with a 16-4 record. Junior Ariel Gao delivered at the service line for for the Tigers. Other OA standouts were sophomore Clare Kavolius (17 assists), senior Maddie Homer (15 digs), junior Sarah Hilliard (13 kills) and junior Claire O’Rourke (six kills, five aces).
Cardinal Spellman 3, Bishop Fenwick 0: The Cardinals swept the match at home.
Norwell 3, Hanover 0: The Clippers swept (25-15, 25-18, 25-21). Norwell's Sarah Pegurri (four blocks, five kills), Madison Oliver (two blocks, four kills) and Skylar Page (one block, four kills) made the difference up front. Izzy Woodman and Danielle Cox combined for 10 digs, four assists, seven kills and three aces in the win.
South Shore Tech 3, Blue Hills 1: Gemma Geisler served 27-for-31 with 13 aces and five kills, while Mia Bradshaw served 22-for-23 with three aces and Abby Pattison had four kills for South Shore Tech (17-3).
