H.S. Roundup: Fisher Catholic’s Viau pitches a gem in Irish win
BASEBALL
Fisher Catholic 3, Liberty Christian 1: The Irish received an outstanding pitching performance from senior JJ Viau in their home opener.
Viau dominated on the mound throwing a complete game three-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one, and he led the Irish at the plate with two hits. Peyton Owens chipped in with a hit and RBI, and Drew Mattei had hit.
Fisher Catholic improved to 1-1 and will host Amanda-Clearcreek at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Granville 10, Fairfield Christian Academy 0: The visiting Knights managed just two hits and committed four errors in their non-conference loss against the Blue Aces. Sam Harper and Andrew Keener had the two hits for the Knights.
SOFTBALL
Liberty Union 11, Nelsonville-York 3: The Lions racked up 10 hits and scored seven runs in the fourth inning to break the game open in their non-conference win over the Buckeyes.
Freshman Emmalee Putnam, who started in the circle, pitching three innings, led the way for the Lions by going 3-for-4, including a home run and three RBI. Audrey Farmer added three RBI and Emilyn Kanet chipped in two hits.
Freshman Suzie Shultz pitched the final four innings, giving up two hits and striking out 10.
Fairfield Christian Academy 16, Grandview Heights 3: The Knights cruised in their non-conference season opener against the Bobcats.
Addie Stem picked up the win in the circle as she struck out eight batters. The Knights were led by Madison Clauss with four hits, Stem with three hits and four RBIs, while Erika Anderson and Caitlin Blair finished with two hits each.
TENNIS
Lancaster 5, Athens 0: The Golden Gales cruised in their non-conference win over the Bulldogs.
At No. 1 singles, Parker Cohen won 4-6, 6-1, 7-6, at No. 2 singles, Grant Hampson won 6-3, 6-3 and at No. 3 singles, Will Richardson won 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Evan Alspach and Jay Nicewanger won 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 and at No. 2 singles, Kaylee Akers and Landon Watson won 2-6, 7-5, 7-6.
