H.S. Roundup: Lancaster baseball splits with Pickerington Central

BASEBALL

Lancaster splits with PC: The Golden Gales split with the Tigers in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division action.

Lancaster won the first game, 2-0, which was resumed Monday in the fifth inning. Isaac Cooperrider pitched a complete game giving up just two hits and striking out 11. Kam Griffith had an RBI double in the fifth inning and Owen Pompey would single pinch-runner Jackson Burke home on the next pitch.

In the second game, the Gales lost 5-3. Darren Ramsey pitched well in relief giving up only two earned in five innings. Cooperrider reached base three times and Jacob Mowder had two RBI.

Lancaster slipped to 12-4 overall and 7-1 in the OCC.

Amanda-Clearcreek 2, Hamilton Township 0: Blayne Barker pitched a complete-game shutout in the Aces’ Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the Rangers.

Barker allowed three hits, struck out one and didn’t walk a batter.

Tanner Affolter, Barker, Gary Kemmerling, Leland Riley, Bryton Carruthers and Bodie Martin had one hit each.

Berne Union 8, Zanesville Rosecrans 2: The Rockets (10-4, 7-2) took a 3-1 lead in the third inning and steadily pulled away from there in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Bishops.

Cade Pugh picked up the win as he pitched five-plus innings, giving up three hits and no earned runs. Ethin Redinger pitched in relief, giving one hit and no runs.

Hudson Gerken had two hits and an RBI, Nate Nemeth and Austin Snyder had one hit and one RBI each, while Russ Blank, Cooper Mitchell and Zach Hartmann had one hit each. Luke Shafer scored two runs.

Fairfield Christian Academy 13, Millersport 0: The Knights cruised in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Lakers, and in the process, improved to 12-3 overall and 9-0 in the league.

Jimmy Schmitz and Caleb White combined on a one-hit shutout.  The offense for was led by JP Vance, Brayden Stem, Matthew, Andrew Keener and AJ Holbrook.  Vance had two hits and scored three times, Matthew Keener had two hits driving in one and scoring one, Stem had one hit with two RBI and one run, Andrew Keener had one hit with three runs and an RBI, and Holbrook drove in two and scored two with one hit. Schmitz rounded out the offense with one hit.

Michael Levacy had the lone hit for the Lakers. Trey Johnston suffered the loss. He gave up five hits and only two earned runs as the Lakers committed six errors.

SOFTBALL

Lancaster 2, Central Crossing 0: Reese Poston fired a two-hitter in the Lady Gales’ Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division win over the visiting Comets. Lancaster improved to 6-0 in the league.

Fairfield Christian Academy 7, Millersport 0: Behind a solid pitching performance from Addison Stem, the Knights were able to get past the Lakers in Mid-State League-Buckeye Division play.

Stem tossed a no-hitter as she finished with 15 strikeouts and led the offense with three hits with three RBI. Madison Clauss and Catilin Blair added two hits each and Claire Deem, Erika Anderson and Katy Smeltzer chipped in one hit each.

Berne Union 16, Zanesville Rosecrans 0: The Lady Rockets scored early and often in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win.

Baylee Mirgon pitched four innings, giving up one hit and no runs while striking out eight. Madison Lopez pitched one inning in relief.

Mirgon had two hits, including a double and two RBI, Hannah Brown had two hits, two RBI and scored four runs, Lopez had two hits, including a double and two RBI and Sophia Kline finished with two hits, including a double and three runs.

Fairfield Union 6, Liberty Union 4: The Lions fell short in their comeback bid in their Mid-State League loss to the Falcons.

Liberty Union out-hit the Falcons, 14-6, but committed six errors. Payton Hochradel led the way with three hits, Emmalee Putnam had two hits and two RBI, Aubrey Farmer had two hits, including a double and Suzie Shultz went 3-for-4.

Shultz suffered the loss in the circle as she gave up six hits in seven innings and four earned runs while striking out 11 and walking five.

TENNIS

Lancaster 5, Bloom-Carroll 0: The Golden Gales blanked the Bulldogs in non-conference action.

At No. 1 singles, Grant Hampson defeated Colin LaVeck 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, Parker Cohen defeated Charlie Gombas 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 and at No. 3 singles, Will Richardson defeated Joe Brown-Borden 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles: Evan Alspach and Jay Nicewanger defeated Logan Drury and Ryan Bender 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 and No. 2 doubles, Landon Watson and Lilly Robinson defeated Rennick Foreman-Colby Spraque 6-2, 6-3.
