H.S. Roundup: Lancaster boys have a solid showing at Akron indoor meet

INDOOR TRACK

Lancaster boys compete in Akron: The Lancaster High School boys' indoor track team competed at the Jerome Fields High School Open held at the University of Akron along with nearly 100 other teams.

Standout performances for the Gales include:

Pole vault: Dan Edwards - 1st - 15’6”; Lukas Lang - 2nd - 15’0”; Brody Ehorn - 3rd - 14’0”.

High jump: Logen Justice - 4th - 5’8”.

Long jump: Dan Edwards - 7th - 19’ 7”.

60-meter hurdles: Brendon Simcox - 1st - 8.49.

1,600: Trevor Lanoy - 4th - 4:31.39.

800: Colton Thress - 1st - 1:55.10; Zane Schorr - 4th - 2:00.49; Wes Taylor - 5th - 2:00.71.

3200: Kaiden Lanoy - 2nd - 9:33.74; Isaiah Lanoy - 3rd - 9:43.22; Carter Schorr - 7th - 10:06.57.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Fisher Catholic 66, Columbus Academy 20: The Irish (13-5) cruised past the Vikings in non-conference action.

Ava Albert led the way with 22 points, Ellie Bruce had 13 points and 11 rebounds, Voni Bethel added 11 points and eight assists and Jayda Dixon chipped in 11 points and five steals.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Fairfield Union 48, Circleville 39: The Falcons improved to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the Mid-State League-Buckeye Division after their road win against the Tigers.

Caleb Schmelzer led the way with 23 points and seven rebounds, Caleb Redding chipped in 12 points and five rebounds and Ted Harrah added seven points and nine rebounds.

SWIMMING

Lancaster competes in tri-meet: Lancaster traveled to the Dublin Rec Center to participate in a tri-meet with Dublin Coffman and Pickerington Central. Coffman placed first (94.5), followed by the Gales (46.5) and the Tigers (34).

Jack Hensely was able to win two races for the Gales. He took first in the 100-yard Backstroke in 55.71 seconds. He also won the 200-yard IM race in 1:58.98 with John Pennington taking 5th in 2:48.44. Will McMaster took second in the 200-yard Freestyle in 1:52.53 with Sam Strigle taking sixth place in 2:24.03. McMasters also swam to a second-place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle in 51.43 seconds with Cambden Morris finishing fifth in 56.13 seconds.

The 50-yard Freestyle saw Max Hensley finish fourth in 24.36 seconds and Cambden Morris finish fifth in 24.88 seconds. Jimmy Geier finished fourth in the 100-yard Butterfly in 1:08.58 with Brayden Dennison finishing fifth in 1:17.07. The 500-yard Freestyle saw Max Hensley finish 3rd in 5:11.61 and Colin Kelly finish fifth in 5:48.78. Sam Strigle finished fourth in the 100-yard Breaststroke in 1:21.27 and Jack Borchers finished fifth in 1:21.40.

Each of the Gales’ relays took second place. The 200-yard Medley Relay of Jack Hensley, Max Hensley, John Pennington, and Cambden Morris finished in 1:50.41. The 200-yard Freestyle Relay finished in 1:46.07 with members being Will McMasters, Brayden Dennison, John Pennington, and Sam Strigle. Max Hensley, Will McMasters, Cambden Morris, and Jack Hensley composed the 400-yard Freestyle Relay that finished in 3:32.10.

Girls Score: Dublin Coffman 211.5; Pickerington Central 77 and Lancaster 62.5.

Amelia Robertson swam to a third-place finish in the 100-yard Backstroke in 1:12.77 with Drea Echardf finishing sixth in 1:19.25. Lauren Wilson finished fifth in the 200-yard IM in 3:00.32.

The 50-yard Freestyle saw Marlee Byers finish fifth in 33.96 seconds and Caroline Conklin finish sixth in 34.72 seconds. Gracie Stuart finished fifth in the 200-yard Freestyle in 2:39.53 and Ciara Church finished sixth in 3:26.08. The 100-yard Butterfly saw Kendall Cox swim to a third-place finish in 1:11.33. Amelia Roberston finished fifth in the 100-yard Freestyle in 1:06.05 and Kendal Cox finished sixth in 1:06.72.

The 500-yard Freestyle has Drea Echard finish fourth in 7:27.34 and Kyra Walling finish fifth in 7:29.17. Marlee Byers finished fifth in the 100-yard Breaststroke in 1:25.89 with Kyra Walling finishing sixth in 1:41.10.  The 200-yard Medley Relay finished third in 2:13.17 with Amelia Robertson, Marlee Byers, Kendall Cox, and Lauren Wilson participating. Drea Echard, Kyra Walling, Gracie Stuart and Caroline Conklin finished fifth in 2:29.09 in the 200-yard Medley Relay.  The relay team of Lauren Wilson, Gracie Stuart, Kendall Cox, and Amelia Robertson finished fourth in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay in 2:00.95. The 400-yard Freestyle Relay team of Lauren Wilson, Gracie Stuart, Drea Echard, and Kyra Walling finished fourth in 4:57.71.

HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS

Lancaster H.S. to hold tennis meeting: There will be a boys’ tennis organizational meeting for any returning players or for those interested in playing for the Golden Gales high school tennis team this spring. The meeting will be held on February 9th at 6:30 p.m. in Room 209 at Lancaster High School
