H.S. Roundup: Lancaster and Fairfield Union boys CC teams place first, again
CROSS COUNTRY
Lancaster places first at Centerville: The Lancaster top seven competed late Saturday night in the Championship race during the Centerville Saturday Night Lights Invitational, coming away with an impressive 68-point winning margin over second place Chardon and 25 other teams.
The race included nine teams ranked in the Ohio D-I, D-II or D-III top 20 and five highly ranked teams from Kentucky. Kaiden Lanoy led the Gales with a seventh-place finish in 15:42.0. Trevor Lanoy followed in eighth (15:42.5) with Isaiah Lanoy 15th (15:57.7), Colton Thress 27th (16:18.8) and Zane Schorr 44th (16:34.3). Carter Davis and Carter Schorr recovered from an early race pile-up by passing 32 and 47 runners in the final two miles. Final Scores: 1st – Lancaster (92), 2nd – Chardon (160), 3rd – Conner Kentucky (185), 4th – Dayton Carroll (204), 5th – Centerville (217), 6th – Loveland (266). There were 27 teams competing.
Lancaster runners posted 14 new personal bests while racing in cool, breezy conditions at the meet. Eleven Gales competed in the Open classification, taking seventh out of 23 participating teams. Jordan Finn, Joe Strigle, Xavier Fahrer, Noah Chanthanhothirat and Talan Carter for the scoring runners for the Gales.
Ten Gales competed under the lights in the Varsity “A” race. Owen Rice, Tyler Brunney, Evan Rice, Ethan Eckman and Alex Rodenbaugh led the Gales to a fourth-place finish in the very competitive 31-team race.
Lancaster girls place ninth out of 32: The Lady Gales competed at the Centerville Saturday Night Lights Invitational. The Gales took on some of the best teams in Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan and placed ninth out of 32 teams in the Varsity A race.
The Gales were led by freshman Harper Allen, who placed ninth out of 279 runners. Riley Spangler placed 35th, Lily Carpico in 100th, Sarah Johnson in 110th, Ava Parrett in 123rd, Bella Specht in 183rd, Alia Hopple in 186th and Lilly Neighborgall in 232nd. In the Open Race, Zoe Fullen led the Gales with a 136th-place finish. She was followed by Lily Layne in 156th, Annabelle Whitacre in 173rd, and Mercedes Sherrick in 187th.
Six Gales were able to hit the PR gong with lifetime bests: Carpico, Johnson, Hopple, Fullen, Whitacre, and Sherrick.
Fairfield Union boys place first: The Flacons continued their dominating season by winning the Pickerington North Invitational. The Falcons beat the second-place team by 37 points. There were 22 total teams competing and 236 runners in the race.
Leading the way for the Falcons was Marcus Runkle, who finished in first place and was followed by Andrew Walton (5th), Nathan Phillips (10th), Christian Reindle (13th), Connor Myers (35th), AJ Ray (40th), and Chase Miller 41st).
Out of 20 teams, the girls’ team took second place and was only by six points behind long-time rival Jonathan Alder. Leading the way for the Falcons was Anna Conrad (3rd), Andrea Phillips (9th), Taylor Rife (35th), Julia Widener (38th), Abbie Pike (39th), Addy Winters (44th) and Claire Wilkinson (61st). There were 194 runners in the race.
Liberty Union competes at P.N.: The Liberty Union cross country teams competed at the Panther Cross Country Invitational at Pickerington North. The girls' team placed 13th in the DII/DIII race and was led by Alison Sponseller (18th, 20:46). She was followed by Heidi Chabot (90th, 23:45), Kathleen Slaby (123rd, 24:40), Caroline Endsley (137th, 25:19), Lillian McCoy (138th, 25:21), and MJ McCleese (164th, 27:06).
The boys' team placed third in the DII/DIII race and was led by Teddy Jencson (4th, 16:22). He was followed by Gunnar Yates (9th, 16:44), Connor Tighe (20th, 17:22), Baily Chabot (44th, 17:58), Charlie Sponseller (61st, 18:25), Lincoln McCoy (75th, 18:43), Mason Crouse (115th, 19:42), Hunter Maddux (162nd, 21:11), and Josh Jones (205th, 22:59).
Fisher Catholic boys place 10th: The Fisher Catholic boys and girls participated in The Panther Invitational at Pickerington North on Saturday.
The Irish Boys placed 10th out of 22 Teams scoring 278 points. Junior Jack Gentile led the Irish with a time of 17:21.1 and placed 19th. Other Irish runners were Roman Funk-18:26.8-63rd-Alex Ristau-18:34-71st-Noah Sharp-18:41-73rd, Daschel Neighbor had a personal best of 19:02.3-90th, Nathan Krile-19:39.8-112th-and Freshman Reece Hagy ran a personal best time of 19:42.1. Junior Jake Taylor 20:12-133rd-personal best, Freshman Austin Brown-20:15.8-136th-personal best, Liam Hoch-21:39.6-176th-personal best, Isaac Hill-22:37-195th and Anthony Teti-26:21-227th.
The Irish Girls placed 15th out of 20 Teams scoring 409 points. Leading the Irish was junior Ava Albert, who placed 37th with a time of 21:31. Other Irish runners were Lillia Funk 24:00-.7-102nd, Senior Ellie Funk a personal best of 24:40-122nd, Marie Hampshire-24:40.9-124th and Abigail Crabtree-25:10-131st.
GIRLS SOCCER
LANCASTER 2, Alexander 0: The Lady Gales recognized eight seniors on Senior Night in the non-conference win over the Spartans.
The Lady Gales and Spartans played a back-and-forth first half. Lancaster recorded three shots and Alexander had 2twoshots. The Lady Gales stepped up in the second half and did not allow the Spartans to record a shot. With 32 minutes left in the game, Lancaster got a corner kick that Sienna Westbrooks headed across the goal to Elena White who headed the ball into the goal. Lancaster then scored again on an Abby Widener goal off a Sienna Westbrooks pass.
The Lady Gales’ defense recorded their eighth shutout of the season moving to 8-2-3 on the year. Avery Westbrooks recorded two saves in goal for Lancaster.
Bloom-Carroll 7, Liberty Union 0: The Bulldogs remained undefeated overall and in Mid-State League-Buckeye Division play after their dominating win over the Lions.
Jordyn Adams led the way with two goals. Sophia Haughn, Emily Plageman, Tessa Brooks, Savannah Wilde and Morgan Adams added one goal each. Hailey Magerko had two saves in goal and Jada Hoskins had one.
VOLLEYBALL
Fairfield Christian Academy 3, Millersport 0: The Knights cruised in their 25-12, 25-10, 25-23 Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Lakers.
The Knights improved to 15-2 overall and remain in second place in the league with only one loss. Kelly Carpenter finished the match with 16 points, 28 assists, 14 digs and 100 percent on serve receive. Angel Herron was 10/12 on serve receive, three kills and 11 digs, Claire Deem 22 points three aces, and 16 digs, Joanna Hildenbrand had 16 kills and was 100 percent on serve receive and Sylvia Ross added 23 kills.
TENNIS
Lancaster 4, Westerville North 1: The Lady Gales sent their seniors out on a high night during Senior Night in their non-conference win over the Warriors.
At No. 1 singles, Scarlett Ward won 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, Gracyn Gagne won 6-4, 6-0 and at No. 3 singles, Hannah Sheets won 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Andi Green and Gracie Stewart lost 1-6, 7-6, 7-6 and at No. 2 doubles, Adriana Rodriguez-Denner and Ava Reid won 6-4, 6-3.
