H.S. Roundup: Lancaster tops Canal Winchester on Roby’s walk-off in the ninth

BASEBALL

Lancaster 2, Canal Winchester 1, (9 innings): David Roby had a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Golden Gales earned a hard-fought non-conference win over the visiting Indians.

Isaac Cooperrider led off the ninth inning with a walk, Kam Griffith sacrificed him to second, and then with two outs, Roby connected on a deep fly ball to left field to score Cooperrider.

Carter Ross pitched seven strong innings only giving up one run. Jackson Burke came on to pitch two scoreless innings in relief. Jakub Akers had a triple and Isaac Cooperrider reached base twice. For Canal Winchester, pitcher Joey Helms had 12 strikeouts in 6 innings.

Fairfield Christian Academy 7, Toronto 2: The Knights knocked off the top-ranked team in the state in Division IV at the Barnesville Brad Wilson Shamrock Classic.

A.J. Holbrook picked up the win by going six innings, allowing 0 earned runs and striking out five.  Andrew and Matthew Keener had two hits each and scored five times between them, while freshman Brayden Stem came through with a huge, two-out clutch hit to plate two runs in the top of the sixth.  J.P. Vance and A.J. Holbrook rounded out the offense with one hit each.

Fairfield Union splits DH: The Falcons split a doubleheader against Sheridan as they won the first game 8-4 and dropped the second game 12-4.

Josh Forson went the distance in Game 1 and the combination of the Bell brothers and Garrett Dilcher threw in Game 2.

Offensively, the Falcons were led by Angelo Galella collecting six hits on the day and Malachi Palmer, who added two home runs and one was a game-ending grand slam. Ronnie Rowley, Micah Hartman, Chase Harmon and Aiden McCafferty added multiple hits on the day.

Bloom-Carroll 9, Logan Elm 3: Led by a huge night at the plate from senior Tyler Parks, the Bulldogs remained unbeaten in Mid-State League-Buckeye Division play after the win over the Braves.

Parks went 3-for-4, including a double, a home run and five RBI. Athan McKnabb was 3-for-3, including a double and a home run, Michael Malone had two doubles and Body Bishop had two hits.

Jacob Genton pitched five-plus innings to pick the win. Adam Black and Caleb Hinkle also pitched for the Bulldogs (8-1, 4-0).

Millersport 5, Miller 0: The Lakers scored three runs in the first inning to set the tone in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Falcons.

They added one in the fourth and one in the sixth. Nicholas Yingling, Trey Johnston and Andrew Kronenbitter all had two hits. Brendan Jakeway got the win on the mound with 13 strikeouts.

Fairfield Christian Academy 13, Fisher Catholic 0: The Knights remained unbeaten in Mid-State League-Cardinal Division play after their convincing win over the Irish.

JP Vance threw a complete game shutout, striking out six, walking zero, and only allowing three hits. Aiden Langwasser, Matthew Keener, Brayden Stem, and Jimmy Schmitz all had multiple hits while Langwasser drove in three and Stem and Schmitz drove in two.  Andrew Keener scored four runs, Stem added three, while Matthew Keener and Vance both scored twice. The win moves the Knights to 8-2 on the season.

Fairfield Union 1, Amanda-Clearcreek 0: Micah Hartman pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing two hits and striking out eight to lead the Falcons to a Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the Aces.

Offensively, the Falcons were led by a second-inning lead-off triple by Malachi Palmer who then scored on a Kyle Wolfe ground ball. Wolfe also added a hit in the effort along with Jacob Forson and Chase Harmon.

Grove City Christian 12, Berne Union 7: The Rockets fell behind 6-0 through the first three innings and never recovered in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division loss.

Austin Snyder started and took the loss in three innings of work. Clayton Moore and Ethin Redinger also pitched for the Rockets.

Moore went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Hudson Gerken had a double, Nate Nemeth and Luke Shafer had a hit and an RBI, while Zach Hartmann, Glenny Harris and Snyder finished with one hit each for the Rockets (6-4, 3-2).

SOFTBALL

Fisher Catholic Fairfield Christian Academy: The Irish used an outstanding pitching performance from Lauren Kersell to shut out the Knights and handed them their first Mid-State League-Cardinal Division loss.

Kersell allowed just one hit and struck out four. Jayda Dixon and Vanessa Funk led the Irish with two hits each.

Addison Stem suffered the loss as she gave up eight hits and struck out 12.

Amanda-Clearcreek 5, Fairfield Union 4: The Aces broke open a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning when Haley Robinson knocked in the go-ahead and eventual winning run in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Divison win over the Falcons.

Robinson led the Aces by going 3-for-4 with two RBI, Haley Sowers and Carly Singleton had two hits and an RBI each and Braeleigh Blossar finished with two hits. Casadee Steinmetz picked up the win in the circle as she went the distance, allowing five hits and striking out three.

Berne Union 15, Shadyside 9: The Lady Rockets outlasted Shadyside in their non-conference win.

Baylee Mirgon went 3-for-3, including a grand slam, nine RBI and scored three runs. She also picked up the win in the circle.

Hannah Brown went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two RBI and scored four runs, Cloee Walton was 2-for-2 with two RBI, Madison Lopez had two hits, including a double and scored two runs and Josilyn Hedges had two hits and scored two runs.

Liberty Union 10, Hamilton Township 0: The Lions cruised in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Rangers.

Payton Hochradel led the way by going 4-for-4, with an RBI and scored two runs, Emmalee Putnam had two hits, including a home run and scored three times, while Audry Farmer finished with two hits and three RBI and Emilyn Kanet added two hits.

Suzie Shultz pitched three innings to pick up the win as she allowed zero hits and struck out six, and Putnam pitched the final three innings, allowing just two hits.

TRACK

Liberty Union wins tri-meet: The Lions finished with 79 points to edge out Johnstown (76), followed by Granville Christian (13).
