H.S. Roundup: Rhyne scores 34 points to lead the way for Amanda-Clearcreek

BOYS BASKETBALL

Amanda-Clearcreek 70, Horizon Science 52: Clayton Rhyne scored 34 points to help power the Aces to a non-conference win.

Tucker Shamblin finished with 13 points, Cade Young had eight points and four assists and Peyton Cassley had 11 rebounds.

Fairfield Union 51, Hamilton Township 31: The Falcons outscored the visiting Rangers 13-2 in the third quarter to pull away in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win.

Caleb Schmelzer led the way with 14 points, Ronnie Rowley had 10, Caleb Redding finished with nine points and Ted Harrah added eight.

Bloom-Carroll 59, Marion Franklin 37: The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 after their convincing non-conference win over the visiting Red Devils.

Evan Dozer led the way with 23 points for the Bulldogs, who jumped out to a 20-4 first-quarter lead. Jared Rose added 14 points and Dashan Clark chipped in nine points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Berne Union 36, Zanesville Rosecrans 20: The Rockets held the Bishops to just 10 points in each half in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win.

Sophia Kline led Berne Union with 14 points, Mina Gronbach had nine and Baylee Mirgon added seven points.

Teays Valley 53, Bloom-Carroll 45: The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season by falling in a Mid-State League-Buckeye Division loss to the Vikings.

Marissa Wilkinson led B-C with 12 points, Emily Bratton finished with 11 points, while Reese Pittman and Alysa Brown chipped in eight points each.

Fisher Catholic 62, Miller 17: The Irish jumped out to a 17-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win.

Ava Albert connected on four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points to lead the way for the Irish. Ellie Bruce finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Voni Bethel had 14 points and six steals and Jayda Dixon had 10 assists.

SWIMMING

Lancaster boys, girls top Teays Valley: The Golden Gales’ boys and girls traveled to the Pickaway County YMCA for a meet against the Vikings. The Lancaster girls won 79-75 and the boys won 108-58.

The 200 medley relay of Amelia Robertson. Marleen Byers, Mia Hensley and Gracie Stuart took first place with a time of 2:09.40. Robertson then won the 100 butterfly in 1:19.17 with Stuart taking second. Mia Hensley won the 500 freestyle in 5:35.45 and the 100 breastroke in 1:17.14. The Lady Gales took first in the 200 freestyle relay with Robertson, Kendall Cox, Adasyn Curry, and Mia Hensley swimming a time of 1:57.70. The 400 freestyle relay team of Stuart, Drea Echard, Cox and Caroline Conklin took first in a time of 5:05.89.

In the boys’ meet, the 200 medley relay of Will McMasters, David Geier, Josh Murdock and Jack Hensley won in a time of 1:52.63. Colin Kelly won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.22. The Gales took first and second in the 100 Butterfly with Murdock winning in 1:03.16 and Geier second.

McMasters won the 100 freestyle in 54.02 seconds. In the 500 freestyle, Lancaster took the top three places. Jack Hensley finished first in 5:50.62 with Josh Murdock taking second and Sam Strigle taking third. The 200 freestyle relay team of Geier, Murdock, Kelly, and McMasters won in 1:39.25. Kelly, John Pennington, Zach Kette and Jack Hensley won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:55.10.

FCA competes in first meet of the season: The Fairfield Christian Academy varsity swim team started the season strong by competing in the Roosenberg Invitational at Ohio University. The Lady Knights finished third out of 33 teams participating.

Anchored by two-time state finalist, senior Grace Barnhart, who scored first place finishes in the 200 free and 500 free, the Lady Knights went on to score in almost every race they participated in. Fellow senior, Emma Smeltzer was fifth in the 100 back with a time of 1:14.20 and 10th in the 100 fly. Junior Joanna Hildenbrand finished seventh in the 100 free with a 1:03.22 and ninth in the 200 IM. Sophomore Clair McGowan was 10th in the 100 back posting a personal best time.

Rounding out the top scorers was freshman Addyson Barnhart who was fifth in the 200 free and fourth in 100 back with a time of 1:11.18. The 400 free relay of both Barnhart’s, Hildenbrand, and Smeltzer also finished with a strong third-place finish as well as fifth in the 200 Medley relay. Freshman Josiah Hildenbrand scored for the men’s team in the 100 breast with a ninth-place finish and time of 1:14.38.
