H.S. Roundup: Zane Trace gets defensive in win over Piketon

Zane Trace 48, Piketon 31: The Pioneers kept pace in the Scioto Valley Conference race with an outstanding defensive performance in their road win over the Red Steaks.

Both teams battled to a 12-12 tie at the end of the first quarter before the Pioneers grabbed a 27-23 halftime lead, and in the second half, Zane Trace held Piketon to just eight points in the second half to pull away.

Xzander Ream led the Pioneers (11-5, 8-2) with 18 points, Kyle Stonerock added 10 and Nalin Robinson chipped in nine points.

Tra Swain led Piketon (9-8, 7-4) with 13 points and Levi Gullion finished with eight points.

Unioto 71, Adena 68, OT: The Sherman Tanks hit a shot at the buzzer to force overtime and then held on for a thrilling Scioto Valley conference win over the Warriors.

DeSean Branson led Unioto (11-6, 8-3) with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to record a rare triple double. Blake Hoops finished with 13 points, Evan Park had 12 points and nine rebounds, while Newton Hoops and Jordan Perkins added nine points each.

Joey Ater led Adena (4-14, 3-8) with 29 points, including 20 in the first half. Davis Kerns added 20 points and Bryson Smith chipped in 10 points.

Paint Valley 71, Westfall 60: The Bearcats (9-8, 7-2) used a balanced scoring attack to pick up a Scioto Valley Conference win over the Mustangs.

Cordell Grubb led the way for Paint Valley with 18 points, Cole Miller had 12 points and nine rebounds, Trent Miller added 13 points and Dax Estep chipped in 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Southeastern 62, Huntington 48: The Panthers (5-12, 3-7) had a balanced scoring attack in their Scioto Valley Conference win over the Huntsmen.

Luke Corcoran led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds, Connor Smith had 17 points, RJ Cartwright added nine and Travis Chenault chipped in eight and Ethan Carroll added eight points.
