H.S. softball: Reed, George power Abilene Wylie past Midland High behind Farrar's gem

MIDLAND – Mycala Reed and Kynslee George each homered, and Reese Farrar tossed a five-hitter as unbeaten Wylie blanked Midland High 9-0 in a non-district softball game.

Farrar struck out 12 and didn’t walk anyone in going all seven innings. It was Wylie’s third straight shutout and fifth overall.

It was a scoreless game until George led off the third with a solo homer to spark a three-run inning. Reed’s two-run blast highlighted a five-run fourth.

Kat Martinez had two hits and two RBIs, while Hanna Hood and Farrar had an RBI each. Nyah Alvarado, Hood and Reed had two hits apiece. Eight of the Lady Bulldogs’ 13 hits were for extra bases.

Wylie (8-0) plays at the Mansfield tournament starting Thursday.

Lake Belton edges AHS

At Temple, Zakayia Frederick tossed a two-hitter as Lake Belton edged Abilene High 2-1 in a non-district game.

It was the Lady Eagles' first loss.

Frederick struck out 13 and walked one in the complete-game victory.

Diana Silva took the loss, allowing two runs on two hits in 4⅓ innings. She struck out six and walked three.

Lake Belton got both runs on two errors in the fourth inning.

Amyah Starks chase home Kinzley Cantu on an RBI single in the seventh for AHS. She had both of her team’s hits.

The Lady Eagles (7-1) were coming off a 3-2 victory over Buda Hays in the Comal ISD Wurst Tournament championship Saturday.

Tea Jimenez collected 3 RBIs for AHS, while Avah Reyes allowed two runs on six hits in six innings for the win.

They went 6-0 at the tournament, beating San Antonio Alamo Heights 11-1, Canyon Lake 9-0, Austin Westlake 12-1, San Antonio Southside 8-1 and Boerne 4-2. Mariah Estrada was named all-tournament, hitting .500 with two homers, seven RBIs and seven runs. She also drew five walks.

AHS plays at the Abilene ISD Ice Breaker starting Thursday.
