H.S. tennis: Stonington, Old Lyme girls remain unbeaten

May 10—NORTH BRANFORD — Stonington ventured outside the Eastern Connecticut Conference and remained unbeaten with a 7-0 girls' tennis win over North Branford on Monday.

Maddie Hamm, Grace Duggan, Maddie Gonzalez and Mia Lewandowski won their singles matches for the Bears (9-0), who visit unbeaten Old Lyme on Wednesday, along with the doubles teams of Katie Johnstone-Katya Snegovskikh, Erin Motherway-Emily Fulling and Lauren Buckley-Marcella Hamm.

In other matches:

— Old Lyme didn't lose a set and remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over Cromwell in the Shoreline Conference. Abby Sicuranza, Callie Bass, Elaina Morosky and Olivia Schaedler won singles matches for the Wildcats (12-0, 11-0) as did the doubles teams of Livie Bass-Alexis Fenton, Aggie Hunt-Beatrice Hunt and Fiona Hufford-Izzy Reynolds.

— Maria Wolff and Avni Kabra each won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 to highlight East Lyme's 7-0 win over Montville. Ritisha Ande and Riddhi Bansal also won singles matches for the Vikings (5-4) as did the doubles teams of Iris Liu-Avery Rindell, Jennifer Liu-Fiona Lee and Nina McKiernan-Donna Park. Montville is 2-4.

— Norwich Free Academy won three of four singles matches on the way to a 5-2 win over Killingly in an ECC Division II match. Paige Raposo, Emily Eggler and Shayla Roche were victorious for the Wildcats (7-3, 5-1) as were the doubles teams of Katie Peter-Leeya Fabry and Liang Smith-Joanna Wu.

— Woodstock Academy swept the three doubles matches to defeat Ledyard 5-2 in an ECC Division II match. Sarah Bailey rallied for a 3-6 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and Teagan Opalenik at No. 4 singles for the for the Colonels (5-4, 4-2).

Boys

— Stonington didn't lose a set in blanking Waterford 7-0 in an ECC Division I match. Tucker Callahan, Matt Turrisi, Jackson Conlon and Chase Donnarummo were singles winners for the Bears (6-3, 3-2) as were the doubles teams of Conard Tobiassen-Joshua Lord, Sam Lund-Peter Schoenecker and Peter Previty-Owen Grant. Waterford is 1-8, 0-5.

— New London and Lyman Memorial tied for the second time, battling to a 3-3 draw. New London picked up singles wins from Wilbur Mack, Jonathan Silva and Flavio Alvarado, while Max Ponte won at No. 1 singles for Lyman (1-5-2) and had doubles wins by Coen Leibrant-Ryan Miller and Brody Raymond-Joey Michele. It was the first of two matches for the Whalers (0-8-2), who lost to Woodstock Academy 7-0.

— Liam Peters, Evan Whitten and Wyatt Hayes earned singles wins during St. Bernard/Wheeler's 5-2 win over Killingly in an ECC Division III match. The Saints (4-3, 4-2) also picked up a doubles wins from Sam Cunningham-Joey Busher and Nathaniel Dobley-Tyler Bustamonte.
