H.S. Track: Clyde's Phillips proves golden at 3A area meet; Jim Ned's Bryan leads boys

WALL – Clyde senior Payton Phillips won four events and finished second in another at the Districts 5- and 6-3A area track and field meet Wednesday at Hawk Stadium.

Phillips won the girls long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2 inches. Wall’s Abbie Boehle was second (17-5½).

The Clyde athlete also won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.88 seconds – well ahead of Ballinger runnerup Ashtyn Wilson (15.63).

Phillips added the 200 (27.34), while Blanco’s Gretschen Grosch was second (27.58). She also teamed with Chloe Ukle, Aven Horn and Abigail Carr to win the 800 relay (1:48.39), beating Wall (1:49.23).

Phillips was second in the triple jump (35-2½)) behind Jim Ned’s Ashlynn Galvin (37-1).

Jim Ned’s Hailey Von Willer won the 1,600 (5:55.38) and 3,200 (13:40.85). Clyde’s Gracie Ortiz was second in the 1,600 (6:01.38), and Jim Ned’s Claire Von Willer was second in the 3,200 (13:56.31).

Clyde’s Carr won the high jump (5-2), Ballinger’s Jillian Halfmann won the pole vault (10-6). Ballinger’s Addison Martin won the 800 (2:21.70).

Jim Ned’s Bryan leads boys

Jim Ned’s Samuel Bryan led the boys with a pair of first-place finishes in distance races. The junior won the 1,600 (4:47.90) and 3,200 (10:49.36).

Coahoma’s Tristan Guerrero won the 200 (22.70) and teamedwith Billy Bailey, Jaidyn Vineyard and Isaiah Elda to win the 400 relay (43.61).

Jim Ned’s Breydon Walker won the pole vault (13-0), and teammate Chris Saling won the 800 (1:58.80). Merkel’s Maddox O’Malley won the 110 hurdles (15.15).

Ballinger’s Kam Aguero won the 400 (51.67).

Jim Ned’s Austin Beard won the 100 (18.42) and 400 (1:11.47) wheelchair races.

Wall won swept the team titles. The Hawks (171) beat out Jim Ned (130) for the boys area championship, while Coahoma was third (76).

The Lady Hawks led the girls (152), followed by Clyde (116) and Jim Ned (80).

The top four in each event advance to Region I-3A meet April 28-29 at ACU’s Elmer Gray Stadium
