Hacker attempts to impersonate Florida Blue customers

Florida Blue found in August 2021 that it fell victim to a cyber-spoofing attack that potentially impacted less than 3,000 of its customers.

The company said in a statement Monday that its IT security team found “numerous unauthorized attempts” by an attacker trying to sign into the online member portal.

The hacker used a database to find user IDs and passwords online to impersonate members, gaining access to people’s claim and payment information, health insurance policy details, contact information and other personal information.

Florida Blue said it blocked the internet addresses the attacker used and that no evidence shows the attacker gathered or removed any data from customers’ accounts.

The company started notifying customers of the attack in late August 2021 and asked them to review their accounts for suspicious activity, unauthorized transactions or changes to personal information.

If customers notice suspicious activity, they can call 800-477-3736.
