Broadway is once again taking Louisville by storm.

The new 2022-23 PNC Broadway in Louisville Series season, announced Wednesday, includes an impressive lineup, from Harper Lee’s "To Kill A Mockingbird," the most successful American play in Broadway history, to "Hadestown," the Tony Award-winner for Best Musical and Grammy Award-winner for Best Musical Theatre Album and the seminal classic "Fiddler on the Roof," the longest-running musical of all time.

“We are beyond thrilled that Broadway is back,” Leslie Broecker, president of Broadway Across America Midwest, said of the PNC Broadway in Louisville 2022-23 season. “We were able to bring back two long-awaited returns and four Louisville premieres this season, all of which provide a kaleidoscope of cultural experiences and themes."

Also heading to Louisville for the 2022-23 season is "Pretty Woman: The Musical,"  "Ain't Too Proud" and "Annie." The new season is on sale now and includes a blend of hot premieres straight from Broadway and "asked for" returns.

"'Annie' was one of the big shows that put Broadway on the map at the Kentucky Center 17 years ago," Broecker said."We ran the show for two weeks and it will always have a special place in my heart."

Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird," starring Richard Thomas ("The Waltons") as Atticus Finch, also includes an interesting twist.

"This is a cool aspect of the show that most people wouldn't know about," Broecker told The Courier Journal. "The actress who played Jean Louise "Scout" Finch in the original movie is now in this national touring production. Her name is Mary Badham and six decades after she was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the film, she is now playing the role of the Finchs' mean, and morphine-addicted, neighbor, Mrs. Dubose."

It's been a decade since a national tour of "Fiddler on the Roof" stopped in Louisville bringing with it all the iconic favorites such as "If I Wear A Rich Man," "Sunrise Sunset" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker."

Broecker calls "Fiddler" the "fastest long show you'll ever see" because the audience is carried along by one great musical number after the next.

The upcoming season also presents big-name stars in some of the national touring productions. Theatergoers will be treated to not only Richard Thomas in Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird," but also Adam Pascal ("Rent," "School of Rock," Disney's "Aida"), who is starring in "Pretty Woman: The Musical."

Prior to the pandemic, Broadway was buzzing about "Hadestown," a fresh musical take on the underworld that tells intertwined stories about young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and King Hades and his wife Persephone. Now the Tony and Grammy-winning production is back on stage and part of the 2022-23 PNC Broadway in Louisville season.

"It's a magical show. The sets and the music are incredible but it's really hard to describe this show. You really just have to see it." Broecker told the Courier Journal."It's a super current and dark love story, and really the one to get."
