UPDATE: Hagerstown Police say critically missing man found safe

A local senior citizen with medical issues was found safe in Montgomery County, Md., on Wednesday after he had been missing since at least Tuesday morning, according to Hagerstown Police.

Hagerstown Police had asked for the public's help in finding Alexis McDonald, 60.

The agency reported shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday that McDonald was found "safe and unharmed" in Germantown, Md., according to Lt. Rebecca Fetchu.

"We want to send a big thank you out to our followers for sharing this information and spreading the word," an updated post reads on Hagerstown Police's Facebook page.

Fetchu texted that McDonald showed up at the home of an acquaintance, who called the family, who notified police. Hagerstown Police confirmed McDonald was found safe shortly before 3 p.m.

McDonald was last seen at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of Dual Highway, according to an earlier Hagerstown Police post on Facebook. McDonald stopped to ask about directions to Taneytown. While he does not have access to a car, police stated it was possible McDonald hitchhiked to another place.

Taneytown Police were notified in case McDonald made it to their area, the post states.

Taneytown is in Carroll County, Md.

The 1300 block of Dual Highway is between Cornell Avenue and Mount Aetna Road.

The Washington County Emergency Notification System sent out an alert about the missing persons case around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday.

In an earlier Facebook post by Hagerstown Police, they stated that McDonald had last been seen in the area of Fallen Timbers Circle.

That area is in the Hager's Crossing development behind the Centre at Hagerstown — where a Walmart is — off Garland Groh Boulevard in the city's West End.

McDonald was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a white T-shirt, a blue vest and sneakers, according to the post and alert.

Fetchu texted that police had tried using a K-9 and thermal imaging drones previously without luck in finding McDonald.

The wind chill hit 28 degrees overnight in the Hagerstown area, according to local weather observer Greg Keefer's site, i4weather.net.
