Hagerstown Police cold case featured tonight on 'America's Most Wanted'. How to watch

Hagerstown Police are hopeful that tonight's "America's Most Wanted" episode on Fox, featuring a local 2022 homicide, will help generate new leads in the search for suspect Taejon Najeire Gill.

Gill, who had a Hagerstown address, is wanted for the Oct. 18, 2022 shooting death of Sharron Akraim Clark, 45, of Hagerstown.

"Obviously, we're optimistic. It's going to be a national story so we're thrilled to be highlighted by 'America's Most Wanted' in hopes we can bring some justice to the family," Lt. Rebecca Fetchu, spokesperson for Hagerstown Police, said Monday.

Anyone with information about Gill's whereabouts should call 911, Fetchu said. Even if the tipster isn't in the local area, they should call 911 because emergency dispatch centers across the country will be able to forward the tip to appropriate authorities.

Folks who want to remain anonymous can send their tips to crimetip@hagerstownpd.org.

America's Most Wanted will air its own tip line during the episode.

A local arrest warrant was issued for Gill on Oct. 19, 2022, for charges including first-degree murder, according to his online case docket.

What we know about Sharron Clark's murder

Hagerstown Police, including Officer Scott St. Clair, were in the Jonathan Street area around 8 p.m. on Oct. 18, 2022, when they heard the sounds of gunshots, according to Fetchu and a Hagerstown Police news release about the incident.

As the officers tried to figure out where the sound came from, the Washington County 911 center received a 911 call about a gunshot victim nearby in the first block of Murph Avenue.

Within moments, officers found Clark, who had multiple gunshot wounds. Police began providing first aid and continued measures to try to save Clark's life until emergency medical services personnel arrived. EMS took Clark to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The investigation involved the Western Maryland Regional Crime Lab, whose personnel arrived at the scene to collect evidence.

Fetchu said police "pretty quickly" had a suspect in Gill, but could not find him.

Gill's mother identified her son as the shooter, Fetchu said.

His mother had been in a relationship with Clark, but Fetchu didn't know if they were still in a relationship at the time of the shooting.

Hagerstown Police do not know the motive for the shooting, she said.

When Hagerstown Police couldn't find Gill, they asked for the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Service.

How did 'America's Most Wanted' learn of Hagerstown Police case?

It was through the Marshal's Service that "America's Most Wanted" producers learned of the case and reached out to Hagerstown Police to do a segment, Fetchu said.

The Fox program had a local film crew interview police and Clark's mother at Hagerstown Police headquarters, off Burhans Boulevard, in December, Fetchu said.

Among those interviewed on film for the segment were veteran Detective Shawn Weaver, Fetchu, and St. Clair. It's possible some of those interviews might not make it into the final segment.

Fetchu said she expects that the interview with Clark's mother will be in the episode.

Weaver was flown to Los Angeles earlier this month, at Fox's expense, to shoot footage on set with host John Walsh and his son and co-host, Callahan Walsh, Fetchu said.

Fetchu said Hagerstown Police are glad the Fox program is assisting in the search for Gill because "we just don't have any leads as to where he's gone at this point."

Gill recently turned 22-years-old, according to information in his online case docket.

He is described in the case docket, filed in October 2022, as being 6-foot-2 and weighing 150 pounds. He was described as having black hair and brown eyes.
