Haiti police say officer killed at his home by gang members

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Officials in Haiti say a rookie police officer was fatally attacked at his home by gang members wielding machetes.

Police spokesman Garry Desrosiers says the young officer was attacked Sunday at his home in Petionville, a hillside district above the capital of Port-au-Prince.

Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive, but Desrosiers says an alleged leader of the gang has been arrested. He also says a group of vigilantes tried to attack the suspect at the police station where he is being held.
