    Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, has been accused of forcibly kissing a former aide in allegations that could hurt his chances of a presidential run in 2024. Lindsey Boylan, who was a special adviser to the governor until she resigned in 2018, said Mr Cuomo “abused his power as governor to sexually harass me, just as he had done with so many other women.” Writing in a post on the website Medium, Ms Boylan, 36, says she stepped down from her position after Mr Cuomo stepped in front of her path and kissed her on the lips after a meeting at his office in New York City. She had also worked as a deputy secretary for economic development. Mr Cuomo, who has recently faced criticism for covering up the extent of deaths in New York’s care homes, is under growing pressure. Elise Stefanik, Republican representative for New York's 21st congressional district, called for Mr Cuomo to immediately resign, adding that “any elected official who does not immediately call for his resignation is complicit in allowing a sexual predator to continue leading the great state of New York.” Alessandra Biaggi, Democratic state senator for The Bronx, also tweeted about Ms Boylan’s accusations: “I have no doubt that this is true," she wrote. “I’ve witnessed similar behavior, and it’s unacceptable." In the post, Ms Boylan writes that Mr Cuomo, 63, had told staff she reminded him of his former girlfriend, only “better looking.” She posted screenshots purportedly of emails from the Director of the Governor’s offices telling her to ‘look up’ Mr Cuomo’s former girlfriend.

    President Joe Biden has spoken with King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia ahead of the release of a report from US intelligence officials that is expected to reveal that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved and likely ordered the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. A White House report of their phone call on Thursday did not disclose whether they discussed the findings in the report. The leaders “discussed regional security, including the renewed diplomatic efforts led by the United Nations and the United States to end the war in Yemen, and the US commitment to help Saudi Arabia defend its territory as it faces attacks from Iranian-aligned groups,” according to a readout of their call.

    Canada's parliament passed a non-binding motion on Monday saying China's treatment of the Uighur Muslim minority in the Xinjiang region constitutes genocide, putting pressure on Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government to follow suit. Canada's House of Commons voted 266-0 for the motion brought by the opposition Conservative Party. Trudeau and his Cabinet abstained from the vote, although Liberal backbenchers widely backed it.

Andrei Kovalenka was on the Interpol wanted list and had been in detention - he was in the process of being moved when he escaped on February 11. Indonesia's authorities released CCTV video showing the 33 year old darting out of a room at a Bali detention center.They also detained his girlfriend, Ekaterina Trubkina, who is suspected of helping him evade authorities.Indonesia is still looking at whether the escape falls under the jurisdiction of the red notice, issued by Russia, or if it will be handled by local police.

    U.S. President Joseph Biden's new administration said on Wednesday it would continue its international re-engagement by seeking election to the U.N. Human Rights Council where it will press to eliminate a "disproportionate focus" on ally Israel. Under former President Donald Trump's more isolationist approach, Washington quit the council in 2018 but the Biden government has already returned as an observer. "I'm pleased to announce the United States will seek election to the Human Rights Council for the 2022-24 term," Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the council by video.

    Twenty20 specialist Mohammad Hafeez has declined a central contract offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board. The allrounder “politely turned down” a contract offer in category C for 2020-21, the cricket board said Wednesday. “While I am disappointed, I fully respect his decision,” PCB chief executive Wasim Khan said in a statement.

    Denmark plans to allow shops and some schools to reopen in March in a much awaited move that could however send hospital coronavirus admissions soaring in coming months. Denmark, which has one of the lowest infection rates in Europe, has seen general infection numbers drop after it introduced lockdown measures in December in a bid to curb a more contagious coronavirus variant. In what the prime minister has called a "calculated risk", the government will allow stores under 5,000 square metres to reopen, while outdoor leisure activities can resume with an upper limit of 25 people.
