Half Moon Bay to hold remembrance ceremony nearly 1 year after mass shooting
HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (KRON) — Nearly one year after seven farmworkers lost their lives in Half Moon Bay in a violent mass shooting, the city will hold a remembrance ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 21, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The ceremony will take place downtown at the Boys and Girls Club Event Center, city officials announced, at 530 Kelly Avenue. Following the ceremony, there will be a candlelit procession from the event center to Mac Dutra Plaza, which is two blocks away. There, the event will end with a moment of silence for the victims.
Refreshments will follow the moment of silence, city officials said.
In the case of rain, the moment of silence will be held at the event center before walking to the Ted Adcock Community Center for refreshments, officials said.
Kelly Avenue is set to close from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in front of the Boys and Girls Club Event Center with traffic redirections in place, according to the event planners. Rolling street closures will pop up between the event center and Mac Dutra Plaza between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
City officials said that parking will be available on surrounding streets and at Shoreline Station, which is northwest of the event center and is accessible from Highway 1. No parking signs will be up on Kelly Avenue from Highway 1 to Main Street from noon to 8 p.m.
