Hall stays undefeated after clash of the Titans

Fans expecting a close game were justified in doing so, as the Titans and Guardians both came into the match undefeated, but Hall showed its firepower early and often, earning a 6-0 win over Glastonbury.

With the Oct. 21 contest, Hall improved to 12-0-1, while Glastonbury fell to 10-1-2. Glastonbury had only given up four goals the entire season before the game, and Hall’s offense has generated 64 goals so far this year.

Hall coach Zeke Seguro said his forwards, including senior standouts Lucas Almeida and Samuel Sandler, have been playing great all season.

“We’ve got players with talent,” he said. “Lucas is a Division I player, and Sam, if he wanted to play Division I, is a Division I player. Our other guys are fast, maybe not as technical, but fast and can get in behind teams. It’s still about finishing the chances.”

Glastonbury coach Chris Vozzolo said he knew the Titans would be a challenge.

“We knew the magnitude of Hall, how well-coached they are, the dynamic players they have. They’re a complete team, top to bottom,” he said, admitting that the two early goals may have thrown his team off a bit, but that’s not an excuse.

“We need to be better in all facets of the game,” he said. “Obviously, we just weren’t ready for that matchup today. It’s good teachable moments for our guys and good growing pains. Hopefully, this game makes us better.”

Seguro gave credit to Glastonbury and said that the score wasn’t indicative of how well the Guardians played.

The two teams were set to face each other again, on Oct. 27, and the Hall coach said his squad will not be taking that game for granted.

“They’re a very good team,” he said. “We were fortunate to get a couple goals early, and it’s tough to come back from that. I don’t expect it to be like that at our place.”

Seguro said the Titans still have work to do to win a title this year, and there certainly are teams who can give them a challenge.

“Farmington did. They tied us, and we’ve had a couple of close ones,” he said.

Seguro said his team could still improve upon keeping the ball and making smarter passes.

“I’d like to be better in possession. We give the ball away too much. We have to find that balance of deciding when to go early, and when to keep the ball. We’re still not where I want to be. Sometimes we’ll force things, when we need to be more patient. We can’t be so direct all the time. We want to be a little less predictable,” he said.
