Halloween 2023: Here's when and where you can trick or treat, see a parade in York County

Trick-or-treaters soon will be ringing doorbells throughout York County to get sweet goodies.

Many events, such as Halloween parades and trunk or treat events, will be held throughout the month for families to enjoy.

Here is a list of trick-or-treating nights and other events planned in the area:

York Halloween Parade: 'Written in Blood' is the theme this year

The 73rd annual York Halloween Parade will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29, according to a news release.

It kicks off at 2 p.m. at the York fairgrounds. The parade route travels east on East Market Street from Richland Avenue to Broad Street, the release states.

The theme this year is "Written in Blood," and participants are encouraged to "craft entries based on their favorite spooky pieces of literature, from authors such as Bram Stoker, Stephen King and many more," the release states.

Cash prizes and increased band subsidies will be awarded this year with the support of the Arthur J. & Lee R. Glatfelter Foundation, the release states. High school bands will receive a $750 stipend. Prizes of $2,000 for first place, $1,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place will be given to bands based on their creativity and musicality.

Prizes of $1,500, $1,000 and $750 will be awarded to nonprofit entries, the release states.

The parade is presented by Glo Fiber.

Trunk or Treat and other events in the area

Trunk or Treat in York City

The city will host its 2023 "Trunk or Treat" event at York City Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26. It is free for York City families, a news release states.

West York Area High School Trunk or Treat

West York Area High School will have a trunk or treat event from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19.

The event, hosted by the West York National Honor Society, will be held in the band lot and includes candy, games, music, food trucks and more.

West York Borough Jack-O'-Lantern Walk and Festival

The event, which includes trunk or treat, games, live music, food and more, will be held Oct. 28 along West King Street in West York.

The sneak peek and movie night will be held Oct. 27.

Trunk or Treat in Shrewsbury

The Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting a Trunk or Treat event, and Southern York County Regional Police will be participating, according to a Facebook post. It will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 at 21 W. Forrest Ave. in Shrewsbury.

Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat in Manheim Township

Manheim Township is hosting a Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Manheim Adventure Park, 4565 Camp Woods Road, according to the township website.

It will include hayrides, food trucks, bounce houses and more.
