Halloween, baked goods and a worker walkout

Did you miss me?

It's been a while since the last Streetwise newsletter, with tourism in Northeastern Wisconsin taking center stage. I went on a short hiatus as I dedicated time to writing about EAA AirVenture 2022 and the Bayern-Man City soccer match that took place at Lambeau Field.

But don't worry — I was still keeping up with business coverage and I have lots to share.

First, Jeff Bollier and I wrote about the developments, restaurants and hotels you can expect to see open yet this year. We cover everything from Mission BBQ to Hy-Vee in the story and include updates on the progress and delays to major projects.

I also covered two new small businesses opening in early fall. Tequilas Mexican Bar and Restaurant is opening in the Olde Main Street business district and is owned by the same couple who own the Taco Burrito Mexico location in Allouez. For anyone interested in sweet treats, McKayla Marie Sweets is opening in Ashwaubenon next to the Revolution Market.

While I know it's only August, but I can't wait for fall and the cooler weather that comes with the season change. With that in mind, I was thrilled to write about Spirit Halloween opening in the former Dressbarn space in Ashwaubenon.

Finally, I covered a worker walkout in Green Bay that caused a provider for children with special needs to close for 30 days. The provider, Kismet Advocacy LLC, specializes in working with children with autism but had to suspend services when at least 25% of staff left, saying they hadn't been paid.

Looking ahead, you can expect to see a story detailing the recent changes going on at Bay Park Square Mall.
