Halloween In New Brunswick IS Happening, With Precautions

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Yes, Halloween is happening this year in New Brunswick!

The city and New Brunswick police department announced Friday, Oct. 16 that Halloween is happening in the city — as long as residents follow safety guidelines.

In fact, New Brunswick City Hall will host a Hall-oween event on Oct. 31 at City Hall from 3 to 7 p.m. The city is encouraging costumes and will be handing out some candy.

Don't forget you can take the kids to East Jersey Old Town Village to walk around in costume and get candy Oct. 28 - Nov. 1 (candy in exchange for a food donation). And New Brunswick is also planning some future safe and family-friendly activities; stay tuned for details on that once they're confirmed.

"Halloween is happening in 2020, not only in the state of New Jersey, but here in the city of New Brunswick!" said New Brunswick spokesman Bert Baron, seen here dressed like a scarecrow.

  • Wear a mask

  • Don't participate in Halloween activities if you or family members have been exposed to COVID

  • For trick or treating, limit your group to household members and stay local

  • If you are giving out candy, don't use a shared bowl. Arrange the candy individually so trick or treaters can just grab it and go

  • Don't attend large parties.
