Halloween Deemed Essential In RI, Despite Pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has made nearly all holidays difficult to celebrate in 2020, from Easter to July 4 to Mother's Day. Strict limits on social gatherings and social distancing requirements make family gatherings difficult, and have cast uncertainty over Halloween, which is quickly approaching.

Coronavirus pandemic or not, the show must go on this Halloween, Gov. Gina Raimondo said.

"We cannot cancel Halloween, we have to get creative," Raimondo said, repeating what has been her mantra throughout the past six months.

The governor went on to say that, right now, state leadership is focused on getting the school year off the ground, but that Halloween will be an important focus in the coming weeks.
