Halloween fun: Ghost walk, Carnival of Horrors, 'Rocky Horror' and Auricle party

Options for Halloween fun abound in Stark County heading into the upcoming holiday weekend.

Here's a rundown of parties, dances, live music, haunted houses, ghost walks, horror films and other events to frighten and entertain you.

11th annual Halloween party at The Auricle in downtown Canton

The Auricle is hosting its annual Halloween bash Saturday in downtown Canton.

The bar opens at 8 p.m., and the event is open to guests age 21 and older.

The costume contest is at midnight, with categories of scariest, funniest and sexiest; prizes include bar tabs and gift certificates. Dancing will feature "the latest devilish tunes and classic ghoulish jams," The Auricle says.

Drink specials and seasonal brews will be served; the party is until 2:30 a.m. The Auricle is at 201 Cleveland Ave. NW.

Haunted attractions in Canton and Alliance

The Carnival of Horrors is open Halloween weekend at the Stark County Fairgrounds.

Carnival of Horrors is described on its website as the "scariest, most horrifying, unique and utterly insane haunted house in all of Ohio."

The high-intensity scare attraction features a fun house, trail of terror and insane asylum.

Hours are 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Friday; 7:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday; and 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The fairgrounds is at 305 Wertz Ave. NW.

General admission tickets are $24 online and $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at http://carnivalofhorrors.com/tickets/.

Haunted house options also include the Fortress of Fear ScreamPark in Alliance.

Admission is $20, or $30 for the Fear Pass. Fortress of Fear is at 12175 State St. The haunted house and fun park is open 7:30 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 7:30 to 11 p.m. Sunday. Box office opens at 7 p.m.

There's also Factory of Terror at 4125 Mahoning Road NE in Canton, which has the new Zombie Bar Crawl.

More than a mile long, the Factory of Terror includes the mirror-maze "1300 Lost Souls," the factory-themed "Industrial Nightmare," the swamp-themed "Lafayette 13," "Massacre on Mahoning" and the pitch-black maze, "The Abyss."

The bar crawl includes the greenhouse-themed Poison Ivy's; the Bourbon Street and voodoo-inspired Forsaken; and the pirate-styled One-Eyed Jack's. Ending the crawl is Bullseyes Axe Bar.

Factory of Terror's hours are 7 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The Zombie Bar Crawl is open 6:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Guests who are 21 or older and purchase the full admission ticket to the Factory of Terror ($25 to $35, depending on the date) automatically can visit the four individual bars and all of the haunted shows. Zombie Bar Crawl tickets are $15 per person and will allow guests access to the four themed bars, as well as to Bullseyes Axe Bar, and the haunted attraction "The Abyss."

Beverages are not included with ticketed admission, and must be purchased separately.

Halloween 'Freekout' rock show at The Auricle

"Halloween Freekout" features a trio of rock bands on Friday at The Auricle in downtown Canton.

The Got It Got It Need It, East Union and Brian Lisik & Hard Legs will perform.

Doors open one hour before the 9 p.m. show. Tickets are $10 in advance online at https://www.ticketweb.com/ and $13 at the door.

The Got It Got It Need It is a longtime Canton group playing "dirty, bluesy '70s rock and roll," said band member Jason Goodwin. The band has two EPs to their credit, including the 2021 release, "In the Streets."

Brian Lisik is a longtime Akron-Canton area musician and singer-songwriter whose sound evokes Paul Westerberg and The Replacements in the indie rock mold with pop music influences.

Earlier this month, Lisik & Hard Legs released the live album, "Hotsy Totsy!," featuring 12 songs, including "Junior High School," which has received airplay on the Akron-based 91.3 The Summit radio station; other tracks include "Hey Zelienople," "The Poor Kids," "Normalcy" and "Happy All the Time."

Formed in 2018, East Union is an Americana, roots and country band with members from Orrville and Akron.

'Nosferatu' and 'Rocky Horror' at Canton Palace Theatre

Canton Palace Theatre continues its scary movie theme this month with "The Witch" and "Nosferatu," as well a special Halloween presentation of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Halloween weekend events include Saturday's showing of "Nosferatu," marking the silent horror film's 100th anniversary with musical accompaniment from organist Jay Spencer.

The classic film tells the story of the mysterious Count Orlok, a vampire who lives in a remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. "Nosferatu" is an unauthorized and unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, "Dracula."

"The Witch" will be featured on Friday night as part of the Palace Theatre's month-long celebration of horror films.

Set in 1630s New England, the movie is about a family torn apart by the the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession.

Tickets are $7. Doors open one hour before the 7:30 p.m. movie at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N.

A classic musical comedy horror film, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is about a newly engaged couple who finds themselves in an isolated area after their vehicle breaks down in a rain storm before they end up at the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Amid a houseful of wild characters, dances and rock songs, the scientist reveals his latest creation.

Doors open at 6 Monday night, with a costume contest at 6:45 p.m. before "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission costs $20 with general admission seating. All tickets include a prop bag, but no outside props are permitted.

'Night of the Living Dead' at The CUT Cinema in downtown Canton

The CUT Cinema is featuring both a "Horror Trivia Challenge" and a screening of the "Night of the Living Dead" on Friday night.

Following a 7 p.m. showing of the classic horror movie, the trivia challenge will feature Canton artist David Sherrill, Vernard Adams, co-host of The Midnight Movie and The Monster Channel on Roku and Spectrum Channel 180, and Heather Hopp, of the Oddmall.

"The Canton Creepy Clash" event is free but seats are limited and must be reserved online at http://thecutcinema.com.

Haunted walking tour in Canal Fulton

The Eerie Canal Fulton Haunted Walking Tour will be at 6, 8 and 10 p.m. and midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Each two-hour tour starts promptly at The Happy Days Co., 143 Canal St. N and ends at The Barrell Room on Canal, 129 Canal St. N.

Canal Life, a nonprofit organization, is presenting the tour, which is described as containing disturbing subject matter not suitable for children. There are also areas of low visibility, sudden actions and potentially wet terrain. Participants must be able to walk one mile, stand up for up to two hours and climb three flights of stairs.

Ghost walks in downtown Canton

Black Cat Tales & Tours is presenting ghost tours in downtown Canton at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Tickets are $16 and can be purchased online at https://www.eventbrite.com/.

The 1.3-mile tour of downtown Canton teaches guests "about the murder, mayhem and macabre," says an online promotion.

Horror film-inspired artwork at Patina Arts Centre

Artist Thom Glick will be presenting the opening of his "Dreadfully Adorable" exhibition from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Patina Arts Centre in downtown Canton.

Inspired by horror movies from the 1980s, "Dreadfully Adorable" explores and reframes classic characters and scenes in a collection of colorful, illustrative paintings, Patina said of the show.

Attendees are encouraged to show up in costume with the chance to win a prize. Refreshments will be served.

Canton-based rock band Urban Honey will be performing starting at 9 p.m. in the underground events venue.

Earlier this year, Urban Honey, a mix of vintage blues, '70s rock and raw yet melodic guitar work, released the EP, "Nectar," featuring the songs, "On My Mind," "Take Cover," "JayBird" and "Shame On Me."

New escape room attraction in downtown Canton

Escape Room Downtown has added a new attraction in time for Halloween.

"Canton Criminals," opened earlier this month, is a jail-themed escape room game.

Escape Room Downtown is on the second floor at 203 Market Ave. S in downtown Canton, next to the National First Ladies' Library.

Participants investigate the old Canton Prison holding cells to see if teams or individual players can figure out how the most famous prisoner escaped.

Two other escape rooms are offered: "Black Hand Society" and "The Bootlegger's Lair," as well as the adventure game, "Edison's Lost Invention." Team members work together using clues and working puzzles to complete an escape room mission. Each challenge varies in length of time and difficulty level.

Comic book Halloween event in Canton

Comics, Cards and Collectables in Canton is holding a Halloween event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at 724 Cleveland Ave. SW.

Halloween dance with La Flavour at MAPS Air Museum

MAPS Air Museum will be hosting a Halloween dance on Saturday featuring La Flavour.

The dance and dinner are 5:30 to 10 p.m. at MAPS, 2260 International Parkway in Green, near the Akron-Canton Airport.

Dinner is served at 5:30, and the dance only opens at 6:30 p.m. before starting at 7 p.m.

Reservations are required for the combination meal and dance tickets ($21.72 each) by 1 p.m. Thursday; tickets can be purchased online. Reservations for the dance only are not required; cover charge is $10. For other ticket purchasing options, call 330-896-6332 extension 110.

A MAPS snack bar will be open; food, alcohol and drinks cannot be brought to the event. Seating is first come, first served.
