Halloween Happenings in Monroe County

Several Halloween and fall activities have been set for Oct. 15 and 16.

Howl-O-Ween Bark in the Park

The new Howl-O-Ween Bark in the Park will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at St. Mary’s Park, 111 W. Elm Ave.

A doggy and doggy owner dress-up contest will be offered; prizes will be awarded. Fall-theme photos will be taken at noon in the photo op area.

At 1 p.m. a parade of dressed-up dogs will begin. Judging will following. All dogs must be on leashes no more than six feet long. Spectators also are welcome to dress up. Admission is free.

Scally Waggs Doggy Bakery and Pet Supplies will celebrate the grand opening of its self-service dog wash, which was built in the store at 44 W. Front St. Dogs can “trick-or-treat” from non-profit vendors.

“You won’t want to miss this fun afternoon at St. Mary’s Park,” organizers, the City of Monroe Parks & Recreation Department and Scally Waggs, said. “We are hoping for a good turnout.”

Boo Bash at the Pumpkin Patch

Boo Bash at the Pumpkin Patch will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at J. Webb Farm, 4262 Post Rd., Newport.

Costumes are encouraged. Children dressed in costumes will receive free admission to the corn maze from noon to 4 p.m. Children must be accompanied by adults; adults need to purchase a ticket for the maze. Cash and Venmo only are accepted.

Children dressed in costumes also will receive a $2 credit toward the purchase of a pre-picked or pick-your-own pumpkin.

Also offered will be hayrides (admission fee required) and farm animals.

Ash-Carleton Park Halloween Fest and Farmers Market

The Ash-Carleton Park Halloween Fest and Farmers Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at Ash-Carleton Park, 12899 Horan.

Buzz Lightyear will attend at noon for photo opportunities, and children can wear costumes and trick-or-treat from the market vendors. Vendors also will sell items, and food trucks will be on-site.

The is the park’s last Farmers Market of the season.

“It’s one of our biggest Farmers Markets,” organizers said.

Fall Festival and Pet Adoption Event

A Fall Festival and Pet Adoption Event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Monroe County Animal Shelter, 911 S. Raisinville Rd.

Attendees can meet pets available for adoption.

Forty vendors and small businesses will have items for sale. Also offered will be food trucks (noon to 3 p.m.), horse rides offered by the Sheriff Department’s Mounted Division, gift basket raffles, silent auction, paint-and-take pumpkins for children and more.

Trick-or-Treat at Monroe County Flea Market

Booth-to-booth Trick-or-Treating will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Monroe County Flea Market, 14758 LaPlaisance Rd., Suite 70.

Wicked Plants Halloween Vendor Faire

A Wicked Plants Halloween Vendor Faire will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at The Flower Market, 8930 S. Custer Rd.

Offered will be food, vendors, activities, plants and a costume contest. A party will follow from 6 to 11 p.m.

Attendees can dissect an owl pellet and then create a curiosity jar with the bones they find as well as dried flowers and other items. This project has a fee.

Trunk or Treat at Norman Towers

The second-annual Trunk-or-Treat event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 in the north parking lot at Norman Towers, 810 W. Elm Ave.

A best trunk decorating contests will be held. Children of all ages are welcome. Admission is free. Norman Towers is accepting candy donations.

Cider Making Weekend

Erie Orchard and Cider Mills is holding a its Cider Making Weekend Oct. 15 and 16.

Attendees can watch cider being made. Also offered will be cider samples, pony rides, hayrides, corn maze and a petting zoo. A magic show will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 16.

Hike or Treat in Trenton

A Hike or Treat event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge, 5437 W. Jefferson Ave., Trenton.

“Our park rangers will teach you about nocturnal animals and pass out candy to participants,” the organizer said.

Costumes are welcome.

Spooktacular Horse Show

A Spooktacular Horse Show will take place Oct. 15-16 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, 3775 S. Custer Rd.

Offered will be a spooky stall decorating contest, fall classes and a scary costume contest.

Classes include Saturday Night Gymkhana, Sunday Halter, Showmanship, Equitation, Horsemanship, Leadline, mini classes, Ranch Riding and more.

The cost to ride is $25. Stalls are $20; trailers are $10. Camping is available for $30. Registration is due Oct. 10.

Trunk or Treat at St. James in Toledo

Trunk-or-treat will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 16 at St. James Lutheran Church, 4727 Sylvania Ave., Toledo.

Food trucks also will be offered.
