Halloween: Last call for ghosts and goblins

Oct. 27—EAST WINDSOR — The Connecticut Trolley Museum, 58 North Road (Route 140), presents Pumpkin Patch and Rails to the Darkside, two major fundraisers for the museum, on Friday and Saturday.

—New this year is the Haunted Mansion. Be prepared for eerie sounds and scares while walking though the mansion. Tickets for the Haunted Mansion are purchased separately, cash only, and only available on-site at the Trolley Museum. Tickets are available for Friday from 7 to 9:30 p.m., rated R, $10 for all ages, and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rated PG, $5 for children and $8 for adults 18 and older.

—Timed tickets are available for the Pumpkin Patch on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Pumpkin Patch is for younger children and is included with the price of admission: $14, adults; $13, seniors and ages 12-17; $12, ages 2-11; free, younger than 2.

—Rails to the Darkside is rated PG-13 and recommended for 16 and older. Tickets are available for Friday, 7 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $25 and must be purchased online.

'Out of This World'

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Museums will present "An Out of This World Halloween" on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wear your best costumes, trick-or-treat in the Museum galleries, and participate in activities inspired by the "Card Tricks: Salvador Dalí and the Art of Playing Cards" exhibit and the "Josh Simpson: Visionary Explorations in Glass" exhibit.

"An Out of This World Halloween" activities include Candy Chemistry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the science of sweets by the UMass Amherst Chemistry Club, and Scotty Swan, a Springfield-based magician and children's performer, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Springfield Museums are on the Quadrangle at 21 Edwards St. in downtown Springfield.

Trunk or Treat

—EAST HARTFORD — East Hartford residents are invited to a free Trunk or Treat Drive-Through, rain or shine, on Oct. 30 from noon to 3 p.m. on the Pratt and Whitney runway. East Hartford families are asked to register by 3 p.m. today at: ehparks.org

—VERNON — Vernon Parks and Recreation will hold a drive-through Trunk or Treat for Vernon children today from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Henry Park, 120 South St., Vernon.

—VERNON — Rockville United Methodist Church, 142 Grove St., Rockville, will host a Trunk or Treat for children in the community Sunday, starting at 11:15 a.m. in the church parking lot. All are welcome.

—HARTFORD — Hartford-area children and families are invited to the Urban League of Greater Hartford's "Trunk or Treat" on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and a costume parade at 5 p.m. at their parking lot, 140 Woodland St. (corner of Woodland and Sargeant streets). Rain date is Nov. 4.

Children 12 and younger should be accompanied by an adult. No advance registration is needed.

Pumpkins with a purpose

COVENTRY — The lawn at First Congregational Church, 1171 Main St., has been transformed into a huge pumpkin patch that is open weekdays from noon to 6 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Proceeds from the sale of the pumpkins and specialty gourds will go toward community and local church missions.

Old Sturbridge Village

STURBRIDGE, Mass. — "Phantoms by Firelight" returns to Old Sturbridge Village on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 4:30 to 9 p.m. and Halloween night from 5 to 9 p.m.
