Halloween parades are back in 2022: Find one in the Hudson Valley

In 2020, Halloween parades were canceled due to the pandemic; a resurgence in a COVID variant in 2021 forced local parade organizers to once again cancel parades. This year, expect the show to go on. Tarrytown

Oct. 29, beginning at 5:30. Expect floats, costumed revelers, and bands along Broadway and then down Main Street to the reviewing stand where prizes will be awarded. Rain date is Oct. 30. The 20th annual parade steps off from Patriots Park. Block party follows the end of the parade on Main Street with a DJ and live music, outdoor dining, performers, and more. Nyack

Oct. 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Generally regarded as the largest Halloween parade outside of New York City, expect costumes, floats and more. Best of awards will be given at the gazebo on Main Street following the parade. Rain date is Oct. 30. After the parade, there is a lot to do in the village. New this year: Get your pets in on the fun with a pet costume contest, from noon-1:30 p.m. on parade day. According to parade organizers, they are expecting a broad array of contestants, including a pig and a goat or two. Prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m. Judging for humans and floats is 3-5 p.m. with prizes awarded immediately following the parade. Beacon

Oct. 29, 2 p.m. The Beacon Chamber of Commerce has brought back the Hocus Pocus HalloweenParade, which is open to all, and all are invited to dress up in costume and march down Main Street from Bank Square to the dummy light. Lineup begins at 1:30 p.m. near the Beacon Welcome Center in Bank Square, 13 South Ave. Parade runs from 2:-Rain date is Oct. 30. White Plains

Oct. 30, 2:30 p.m. Kids and adults in costume line up at White Plains Library Plaza at 2:30 p.m., parade begins at 3 p.m. and ends on Court Street where the kiddos can trunk or treat.  Free event with no registration and will take place rain or shine. Orangeburg

Oct. 31, 6:30-8 p.m. The annual parade, sponsored by the Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department, steps off at the fire house, 61 Dutch Hill Road, travels down Parkway Drive South, up Devon Drive, around Dutch Hollow Drive, and then back along Dutch Hill Road to the firehouse. New Paltz

Oct. 31, 3-6 p.m. The New Paltz Rotary's event will include stations set up with apples and candy for kids in costume. The parade will start at the Middle School and march down Main Street to Plattekill Avenue and end at the old fire house. For more info, go to newpaltzrotary.org/events/

New York City

Oct. 31, 7 p.m. The city's 49th annual Village Parade is back in full form with the theme Freedom, after a COVID cancellation and some uncertainty surrounding last year's event. It will take place beginning at 7 p.m. Oct. 31. and runs down Sixth Avenue between Spring and 16th Streets. For more info go to halloween-nyc.com/

Central Park

Oct. 27: 4-7 p.m. This is a unique "parade" of floating jack-o-lanterns in the lake at Central Park's Harlem Meer. The Pumpkin Flotilla is not to be missed. Anyone can drop off their carved pumpkin, but it's first come, first to appear. Drop off is between 4-5:30 p.m. and pumpkins will be accepted until 5:30 pm or until all spots are filled, whichever comes first. Watching the flotilla is free.
