Halloween season kicks off with Friendly Monster, event trunk or treat, other activities

Beginning this weekend, area communities in both Sandusky and Ottawa counties have numerous Halloween events planned.

The Haunted Hydro has its weekend scares with information available at thehauntedhydro.com, including a special family-friendly daytime event for youths.

Sandusky County

Fremont

The Haunted Hydro, 1333 Tiffin St., is hosting a Friendly Monster event from 3 to 5 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 22 and Oct. 29. This is for families, children and adults. Admission for children is $5 and parents are free. Lights will be on and children should bring their own trick-or-treat bags.

On Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Downtown Fremont will host its Farmers Market and Harvest Happenings Event. This event is free. This is the last farmers market of 2023 on the streets of downtown Fremont. Farmers and vendors will be selling produce and other unique items.

There will be a costume contest at the Strand Theatre. Trick-or-treating will be held through the farmers market. Restaurants and other food vendors will be open. Use 105 S. There also will be a Trunk-or-Treat Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Fremont Rec Center, 600 St. Joseph St. The City of Fremont invites the public to attend. There will be bounce houses, games, costume contests, ice skating and more. This is a free event. Children may wear costumes. For more information, visit fremontohio.org.

Bellevue

The Bellevue Alliance Church, 1001 Monroe St., is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat event from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. There will be candy, hot dogs, hayrides and games. Vehicles are welcome to set up and pass out candy. Contact the church at 419-483-0120 to register.

The Bellevue Halloween Parade and 28th Annual Safe Halloween will be 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26. The parade forms at Central Park and proceeds on North Street and ends at the Mad River and NKP Railroad Museum.

Clyde

The Clyde Halloween Parade on Main Street will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Costume judging will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Clyde Elementary School. There is also a contest for floats entering the parade and advance registration is required by calling 419-547-9825. Float judging begins at 3 p.m. at the school.

Green Springs

The annual village Halloween contests will be Sunday, Oct. 29. The afternoon kicks off with costume judging at 4:30 p.m. at the Catherine Street fire station. Registration is 4 p.m. The parade follows judging. Prizes and awards for best floats and costumes are awarded. Trick-or-treating begins at 6 p.m.

Woodville

The Woodville Business and Community Association’s FrankenChili dinner will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 on Fright Night. Dinner is at the Woodville United Methodist Church. The menu includes chili, soup, hot dogs, coney dogs, chips, and a variety of desserts, all available a la carte. Trick-or-treating at the businesses will happen from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Anyone who would like to join the fun and pass out treats to the tricksters is welcome to find a spot near a business that is closed for the evening and, if you like, decorate your spot. Other activities are also planned.

The Woodmore-Penta FFA is hosting a Halloween Extravaganza with hayrides, tasty treats, games, and a costume contest from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Woodmore High School Ag Shop.

Ottawa County

Port Clinton - Main Street Port Clinton and the Chamber will host Trick-or-Treat in downtown from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

Oak Harbor - The Downtown Trick-or-Treat is free to the public and will be held rain or shine on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Neighborhood door-to-door trick-or-treating will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. that same night.

Put-in Bay - The Put-in-Bay Visitors and Convention Burean will hold an all-day event called Halloween Boo Bash at the Bay. For details visit Put-in-Bay Halloween Party 2023 | 2000+ People For Big Fun! (visitputinbay.org)
