Halloween storm brings power outages and flooding

Oct. 31—Almost 6,000 Mainers are still without power as heavy rains and strong winds sweep across the state.

As of 2:05 p.m. Versant Power is reporting 3,603 customers without power. Meanwhile, Central Maine Power has 2,040 customers without power.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for parts of Sagadahoc, Waldo, Androscoggin, Cumberland and York counties, the National Weather Service in Gray reported. As of 8:15 a.m., between 3-7 inches of rain had fallen, with many roads becoming impassable due to flooding.

A special weather statement has been issued for coastal Hancock county, affecting Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Bucksport, Orland and Castine. Some areas are seeing ponding of water or minor flooding on a few roads, NWS Caribou reported.

The National Weather Service warns drivers not to try to cross flooded roads due to drowning dangers.
