Halsey Reveals She’s Been 'Committed' Twice While Struggling with Bipolar Disorder

Halsey is opening up about her struggles with suffering from bipolar disorder, revealing she's actually checked herself into treatment twice since she became famous.

The “Nightmare” singer sat down with Rolling Stone and spoke about her current life, learning to be more self-sufficient and broke down how she deals with mental health.

Halsey recently moved into a new mansion in L.A. and is currently recording new music for her third album.

In the interview, it is revealed the singer was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 17-years-old following an attempted suicide. She spoke about how she raised herself and claims her “parents didn’t do s--t” when it came to parenting.

The singer explained that with bipolar disorder, she is never really sure of which version of herself she will be when she wakes up. Halsey said she has been in an “extended manic period that she knows won’t last forever.”

Halsey told the interviewer, “I know I’m just going to get fucking depressed and be boring again soon. And I hate that that’s a way of thinking. Every time I wake up and realize I’m back in a depressive episode, I’m bummed. I’m like, ‘F--k. F--k! This is where we’re going now? OK ...’

Halsey says she is unafraid to talk about her mental issues nowadays and talked for the first time about being committed twice since becoming a celebrity.

She explained, “I’ve been committed twice since [I became] Halsey, and no one’s known about it. But I’m not ashamed of talking about it now.” "Being committed isn’t a problem," she reasoned, adding that, "it’s a way of responsibly dealing with one. It’s been my choice."

To deal with her mental health and better manage her life, she said he has given up drinking hard alcohol, drugs or smoking pot.

She explained, “I support my whole family. I have multiple houses, I pay taxes, I run a business. I just can’t be out getting fucked up all the time.” She has yet to give up her last vice of smoking cigarettes.
