Hamburg grad Haley Gravish helps Kutztown softball defeat Charleston in NCAA Division II regional opener

May 11—Hamburg grad Haley Gravish allowed two hits and knocked in a run to lead Kutztown University to a 2-0 win over Charleston Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional at Charleston, W.Va.

The sixth-seeded Golden Bears (30-24) will face second-seeded Shippensburg (33-18) Friday at noon in Charleston. The Red Raiders scored four runs in the seventh to beat seventh-seeded Davis & Elkins 10-9 Thursday.

Gravish, a sophomore, struck out two and did not issue a walk. She took a perfect game into the fourth, which was broken up by an error, and a no-hitter into the sixth against the third-seeded Golden Eagles (40-10), who are ranked 19th in Division II.

In the sixth, Gravish (19-7) allowed a one-out single. Following a sacrifice bunt for the second out, she allowed another single to put runners at the corners, but got the next batter to fly out to end the threat.

In the seventh, Hannah Reimel led off with a single for KU. A double by Brianna Hughes put runners at second and third. Sarah Harvat knocked in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly, then Gravish singled to make it 2-0.

Gravish then retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game with a strikeout.
