Hamidou Diallo wants rematch with Zion Williamson at 2020 All-Star Dunk Contest

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Hamidou Diallo took the title at the Dunk Contest on Saturday, the annual event that once highlighted All-Star Weekend.

The contest, though, has lost its luster in recent years. Most of the NBA’s biggest stars simply won’t take part in the event anymore, and many times — like this year — it can get rather stale.

Diallo has a plan to fix that. If he succeeds, the Dunk Contest at the 2020 All-Star Game in Chicago could be incredible.

Diallo wants to go head-to-head with Duke star Zion Williamson at the Dunk Contest next year, when Williamson will be a rookie in the league.

The duo have squared off before, last at the Under Armour Elite 24 dunk contest in New York City in 2016.

That battle, naturally, was insane.

Williamson, however, won that first bout.

“I won,” Diallo told The Athletic. “I had won. I just didn’t complete the (last) dunk. If I had completed the dunk, I would have won. But basically I won. I did everything to make me a winner up to that point. I just didn’t complete the dunk.”

Diallo needs a chance at redemption.

So please NBA, give us the matchup we all clearly need at the Dunk Contest next year in Chicago and pit Williamson against Diallo when he attempts to defend his title.

If it’s anything like their first matchup — which was a near-perfect, old school dunk battle — you won’t regret it.
