NOVATO, CA — Hamilton Pool in Novato will remain closed for the summer season due to the coronavirus pandemic, city officials announced this week.
The pool at 203 El Bonito Drive typically opens each summer from May through September.
"This decision was made after careful consideration and evaluation of potential opening alternatives," officials said in an announcement.
The cities of Novato and San Rafael maintain and operate Hamilton Pool through a mutual services agreement.
Based on the county's guidelines for outdoor swimming pools, city staff determined that reopening the pool would present challenges related to social distancing and maintenance of high-touch surfaces. Staff decided to keep the pool closed to protect the health and safety of the community, as well as due to limited staffing and budget constraints as a result of the pandemic, according to the city.
"We'd like to thank the community for their cooperation and understanding during these uncertain times," officials said. "We hope to see you at the pool in 2021!"
