The Hamilton softball team is heading back home with some additional hardware after winning the River Valley Mustang Classic on Saturday, winning three straight games.

In the first game, the Hawkeyes took down Dowagiac 4-3 in a stellar pitching performance from Kianna Vork, who tossed 5.2 frames and struck out six batters. Madie Jamrog got the save by recording one out on one batter faced.

Raya VanderZwaagg, Jamrog and Tiernan Nykamp led the team with two hits each, with Nykamp blasting a ball over the fence.

In the second game of the afternoon, Hamilton took down Decatur 12-0. Decatur is currently ranked No. 5 in Division 4 in the state, which is one Division below the Hawkeyes. Jamrog earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing just one hit while sitting down nine hitters.

The junior went 3-for-3 at the dish too, adding an RBI. Ava Prielipp went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a double and a home run. Kyra Kleinheksel went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored.

Hamilton won the final game of the tournament, defeating Nies Brandywine 12-1. Jamrog threw a complete game allowing four hits and striking out seven batters.

She also went 2-for-2 at the plate, scoring four runs, driving in another. Kleinheksel went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Taylor Oosterink went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Alyssa Morgan went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a triple.

"When you give up 12 hits in three games, that's usually going to keep you in it. Madie Jamrog pitched very well as did Kianna Vork. Offensively, we did a nice job in all aspects including baserunning. It was a great tournament for us," said coach Mark Behnke. "Our team continues to improve and grow. It's not a surprise to me that we are getting quality at-bats from up and down the batting order. Softball is a team game. This week, we have two huge league doubleheaders at Fruitport and home versus Holland Christian as well as our Senior Day versus Plainwell."
