Owen Alderink proved to be one of the top hurdlers in the state.

Now, he is ready to hurdle his next challenge.

Alderink, a Hamilton senior, signed a national letter-of-intent to accept a track and field scholarship at Davenport University.

"I chose Davenport because I really liked the atmosphere there. I met my future coach and he was a great guy with a lot of goals for the team that I would like to be a part of," Alderink said. "Also, I know some of the people who are on the team and I'm happy to join them as a teammate once again."

Davenport is an NCAA Division II program in Grand Rapids that competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conferences, one of the top conferences in the country.

"The opportunity to run track at a college level doesn't come up for most people, so it means a lot that they are giving me a chance to come onto their team and hopefully help the team become the best in the GLIAC," Alderink said. " I hope to show what I'm capable of and I want to be the best that I can be at hurdling, with an end goal of hopefully winning a championship. Therefore, I know the coaches at Davenport will provide all of the help they can for me to reach my goal of becoming one of the best in nation."
