Hammerhead Shark Spotted Feeding on Stingrays Near Shore on Alabama Beach

A large hammerhead shark was spotted feeding on some stingrays feet away from beachgoers in Orange Beach, Alabama, on August 15, viral video shows.

Footage captured by Texas resident Catarena Peek shows the shark thrashing near the shoreline as it chases stingrays.

Speaking to Storyful, Peek said she spotted about 15 sharks on Monday morning but the hammerhead was the largest she’d seen.

“It is not uncommon to see sharks up close, but the locals said it is very rare to see a shark that size so close to shore,” she said, adding that helicopters circled the area every hour for the next two days to try to spot more. Credit: Catarena Peek via Storyful
