New Hampshire GOP Gov. Chris Sununu says any Republican in the presidential race who isn't 'hitting Donald Trump hard right now' is 'doing the entire party a disservice'

New Hampshire Republican Gov. Chris Sununu is still mulling jumping into the presidential race but sternly warned declared candidates who have yet to aggressively target former President Donald Trump to shift their gears.

"All Republicans have to be hitting Donald Trump," Sununu told The New York Times. "Any Republican that isn't hitting Donald Trump hard right now is doing the entire party a disservice because if only one or two people are willing to take a shot at Donald Trump, it looks personal. It looks petty."

The governor, who in November 2022 was elected to his fourth two-year term in office, told the newspaper that he was "50-50" at the moment when it came to entering the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

Sununu, a Trump critic who last year rejected a concerted effort by Washington Republicans for him to run for the Senate against Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan, has repeatedly said that a Trump nomination would be detrimental to the GOP and likely cost the party the presidency.

"Trump is going to be seen as a very extreme candidate. The country is going to push back against it," Sununu told ABC News earlier this year.

While speaking with NBC News last month, Sununu called Trump a "loser" and placed blame on the former president for Republican congressional losses in 2018, 2020, and 2022.
